We The Brave, my first game. WALL OF TEXT

    WALL OF TEXT ALERT!!!
    You have been warned!!!

I've looked over a few 'my first game' posts and was unable to find any stringent guidlines for length, content, etc, so I'm just going to assume that this place is as laid back as it seems (as long as you follow basic code of conduct, of course)

My game is titled We The Brave. It is being made in RPG Maker 3

    I'll start with some story;

Within the first moments of gameplay, you die. And not the "oh, now I get to play in heaven" kind of death, or the "now I get to drink some Phoenix Down" way. No, like the "torn to shreds and never coming back" way. Thing's just went wrong, I guess. As an Arena Pit Dog, danger was always part of the job. But you could have sworn that you had already killed that beast...

Cut to, of all people, your quiet little brother. A Messenger. And speedy, reliable messages are important here, because in the city of Valen, their is no "outside" to flee into if you hear about a plot on your life a little too late. That's right, Valen is all that their is; an island-bound city in the middle of an endless sea.

Kather (the messenger) is overcome with grief until he find a brief ray of hope; while attending his sister's funeral he accidentally ends up robbing the grave of a Lord, one of the city's six leaders, and come across a very interesting pair of rings. The Ring of Aurora, the city's patron Goddess, grants you the ability to see clearly past people's lies when worn. And the Ring of Morpheus, when worn, allows you to slip into people's dreams.

By using the rings and allying himself with the city's underground resistance group, Kather begins to discover exactly how many secrets one city can hold, some of which are darker than he ever imagined. He'll have to use all his wits to overcome the obstacles before him and figure out who is responsible for his sister's death--and crimes a hundred times worse.

    End story...

Congrats if you read all that! Now for a (much briefer) list of features:

--Game divided into ten "days", each one consisting of you executing one plan with the resistance.
--Diverse plans (16 in total) each have two possible paths, allowing for 32 different missions in total.
--Learn the city of Valen inside and out; one city made of six "towns", Valen is bursting to the brim with NPC's and subtle decorations that deepen the story line.
--Every character is 'important'. There are no filler NPC's. Every character has a story, preferences, and intimate relationships with the other members of the city; island life ties them close together and breeds tight bonds.
--Woo one of three possible women through your words and actions.
--HEAVILY story driven; much of the gameplay revolves around your knowledge and understanding of the events happening around you, and you must be observant and incisive with questioning to succeed, aided by the Ring of Aurora.
--More puzzles than battles; solve a wide array of complex and simple challenges testing various parts of your brain and knowledge of the city.
--No random battles, and very few event battles.
--Each night, depending on which of the six city sections you sleep in, The Ring of Morpheus will take you into that section's Lord's dream realm, places where the truth becomes readily apparent and difficult puzzles aim to prevent you ever awaking.
--Gather swords and forge them into one of eleven different extremely powerful blades.
--Multiple endings and a "trophy" system that shows you how many trophies you earned, what each one is for, and gives you an overall ranking.

    Become brave.
    Join the resistance.

Thank you if you actually read all of that! I apologize for any errors, I do not have time to proof it, but my grammar is usually passable.
Any comments welcome, I'll be happy to clarify or expand on anything.

    Bye

This game sounds really good. Please make this. Please.

So many "my first game" topics sound really boring, but your narrative is quite interesting. I like it.

If sounds like a very intersting game. How long have you worked with RPG Maker 3? I really like the idea of more puzzles then battles. It makes the game very refreshing. Best of luck to you.

        I purchased RPGM3...Wednesday, I guess. The 30th.

Sad, I know. But I'm a quick learner and have been stuck at home sick, so I've had all day every day to putter around with Dear Brave Heart (bleh...) and to power-lurk here.

        I'm learning...

As a "my first game", it's definately ambitious. You'll have a hard time getting it done. Don't believe me? I started planning my first game in 2001.

It can be done, yes. You'll just need to have the patience to last.

Yeah...I know that this isn't going to be easy, but I like seeing projects through. Even if I do, unfortunately, flame out, I'll have gotten a lot of experience for my next game.

And almost as if to prove your point, I added a few features to the list that I had originally forgotten.

Oh dear, what have I gotten myself into.

I was asking myself the same question once I started making Tree of Life, which has some similar coding here and there, at least in function.

You can do this. I know you can. Just make lots of notes (which come in really handy when you need to copy pages of code from NPC to NPC), and I find that a running checklist can not only help you to be more productive, but also can help you get back into the swing of things when you have to take a break from working on the game for a while.

You have some great ideas. Good luck with them!

This sounds like a very interesting game, FlamingMage. I hope you enjoy the process!

Sounds like a solid first game if you ask me.

                    Oh hey, thanks everyone!

@Ωbright, I have to admit, Tree of Life was one of my "inspirations" for making a quasi-linear but extremely open-ended game. Its definitely on my playlist if I ever find a max drive.

Hey guys, is there any sort of 'time elapsed' or 'enthusiasm shown' or something that I have to demonstrate to get my own forum? I know about the application process and all, I'm just wondering how much of a faux pass it would be to request one already. I have about a billion things I'd like to share about my game, but prudence demands that I spout my gibberish somewhere a bit more discreet.

Just put a request in the tech forum. I'd be really surprised if an admin said no, based on what you've already posted about your game ideas.

And if you play Tree of Life, I hope you like it. I'm glad to know it might have inspired or influenced someone

I'd like more details on the specifics of the story. For example, what is the underground resistance fighting against? Why does the main character join up with them?

Later tonight I will post a story synopsis in my shiny new game forum, Fearless Gaze Studio. I highly suggest that you read that if you want more specifics, it will be quite extensive. It will be posted in perhaps an hour and a half.

Likewise, many other tidbits about my game will be updated there and I probably won't update this thread. So if any of you are interested () that's the place to be.

you may want to put a link to your forum in your sig, and even put a mention in your sig when you update it, like I do. that way, every time you post, someone will see that your forum has been updated without you needing to mention it.
