I'm serious this time. Let's do it.
The Game:
Play Dwarf Fortress for an in-game year, save the game, send it to the next player.
The Rules:
- Each turn lasts a year. No more or less. If the game starts out in the summer, once it says, "It is now summer" again, you save and stop playing.
- You don't have to know how to play to participate, but it'd help you to figure out some of the basics before your turn comes.
- I'm tired of dishing out deadlines, and I'm also tired of people quitting on me halfway through. Morrowind Misadventures and Continuous Comic were flops in many regards because of that. If you're going to play, then play. Don't wait till your turn comes to say, "Sorry, can't do it." A year in Dwarf Fortress can be obtained in one sitting IRL. Time constraints and excuses like, "I'm too busy to play" don't count. I'm putting my foot down.
- The game doesn't end until all the dwarves die, or playability is completely nullified by some catastrophic event or super-natural disaster (which doesn't usually happen). If the fortress is flooded with magma, we keep going. If the entire map is flooded with magma (a herculean effort), we stop.
- Everyone should obtain the current version of DF, which can be downloaded here. It's a small download. You can mess around with the visuals however you see fit (tileset FAQ here), but the file init.txt must include the following (c/p these over the old options):
[AUTOSAVE:SEASONAL]
[AUTOBACKUP:NO]
[AUTOSAVE_PAUSE:NO]
[TEMPERATURE:YES]
[WEATHER:YES]
[ECONOMY:YES]
[INVADERS:YES]
[CAVEINS:YES]
[ARTIFACTS:YES]
[ZERO_RENT:NO]
[POPULATION_CAP:100]
[BABY_CHILD_CAP:100:1000]
wiki article on init.txt if you have any questions
If you have any other questions about the game, wiki it first, then ask. Seriously, the wiki is your new best friend.
So, anyone daring enough to send little smiley faces to their utter doom?
