    First Fairy Tale

I've begun trying to make a game again. and THIS time, I'm going to finish it.

It's called First Fairy Tale (I've invented this title before, but I'm finally using it), but the game's setting combines fantasy and Science Fiction (Kinda like Ivan's "The God Gene", but much different). Here's a Prologue/backstory:

The world of Nevla has been the playground for a war between the kingdoms of Asgard and Midgard for ages. Both kingdoms relied on technology to bring suffering to each other, while abandoning magic, the gods' gift to humanity. As punishment, the chieftan god Zucharen summoned forth all the souls of the evil humans who died at war and created a monster called "Iniquity" out of them. Iniquity was to destroy all humanity so the gods could start anew.
Unfortunately, Fate had different plans. Iniquity took on a self-aware consiousness of its own, and Zucharen made the mistake of making it far more powerful than the gods themselves. Iniquity destroyed most of the 1st generation of gods, but their children, the Eidorens (Demigods), were able to flee to Nelva. Before being destroyed, Zucharen regretted his actions, and foretold of the coming of a being called "Penance", who would be beyond godhood, and alter the planet as it sees fit for the planet's existence. This would be known as "Armaggedon".

The 5 Eidorens, Infernov, Avalonche, Mjolnir, Richteriel, and Zithonoth, hid from the world's population, and brought along a man named Apollyon Pendragon to found the "Church of St. Apollyon", which taught about how the world came to be plagued by Iniquity, how special people can take on the class of "Evoker" to call forth the Eidorens to aid them in battle, the existence of magic, and how if a summoner can enter into Iniquity, they could Evoke the Eidorens from within, then they can destroy it from the inside out.

Unfortunately, while the Church of St. Apollyon was still forming, Asgard and Midgard's leaders blamed each other for the appearance of Iniquity, and the war grew even more tense and violent. To make matters worse, at 1 point a man named Lucifer Orutiani, a rogue follower of St. Apollyon, founded a cult called "Hand of red Damnation" (HorD, for short), which worshipped Iniquity's rampage and the coming of Armaggedon.

Fast Foward many years later. The Kingdom of Asgard became replaced by Hexagon Magic Research company, and later, just Hexagon Co. Hexagon Co. developed a way for humans to use magic in a more potent form. By combining the raw power of magic with ancient scientific technology, hexagon Co. invented the science known as Psychetechs, so named because magic relies on a human's "Psyche" to be used. Psychetechs led to a technological revolution across the entire world, leading to the "reinvention" of airships, energyweapons, and so forth. Soon, Hexagon co. and Midgard were using even more powerful weapons, while the Church of St. Apollyon became a major religion and HorD causes death and destruction to the world to aid Iniquity.

During the present day, Hexagon co. has an elite group of fighters that's the most skilled in the entire Hexagon military. They are known as "Sigma", and our story follows the exploits of 2 of them and their 3 comrades....

    First Fairy Tale

Here're some of the game's features:
7 playable party members and 5 Eidoren party members
    Special Psychetech combination attacks
    Mech battle minigames

The game is for RPGM3, because that's the program I have.

Sounds quite good in gameplay and story alike (even if it screams FF7 fanboy). I think it's too ambitious for you, but I will be interested if you get this near Demo status.

Good luck! You can do it. If you have trouble, we can help.

It's good that you've worked out a lot of the backstory. That will help when you start working on in-game story, and character interactions in storyteller scenes.

One thing you might also want to work out a bit in advance are the game mechanics. I know I always jump up and down and scream about templates for things like character growth, weapons, skills, and equips, but I swear they really make things easier. Also be sure to keep a list of your variables on paper, so you can remember which ones control what. If you want some templates I made a ton, specifically for RM3. [EDIT] Which I just remembered are right here.

            Re: First Fairy Tale

I'll post info on the party members as time goes

            Inxidus Orutiani
            Age: 24
            Blood type: A+
            Class: Strategist
            Weapon: Energy Hammer
History: Inxidus spent his childhood as the youngest member of the Orutiani clan, which has governed HorD for ages. However, at age 10, he discovered something about him that was secretly kept from him (I won't say what). So, feeling lied to and used, he did what all intelligent 10 years olds do: he ran away from home.
Inxidus ran northeast to the town of Avalon, which is home to the Church of St. Apollyon's Vatican. He sought shelter in the church, and lived it for a few months. However, when his origions were discovered, the church's current high priest, Arthur Pendragon, tried to have him punished for the sins his family commited. However, the Eidoren Mjolnir appeared before everyone in the room and demanded that Inxidus be spared, because , being only a child, he couldn't possibly be held accountable for the sins of his family. Also, because of that mysterious secret about him (can you guess?).
As time went of, Inxidus grew up in Avalon. He enrolled in a local Hexagon co. Military School, because he thought Energy Blades were cool. At age 15, he met Julinda Pendragon for the first time, who also enrolled. At age 18, he began a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship with Julinda. That was also the year he was accepted into the Sigme Training Facility. At age 20, he became an official member of Sigma.
In battle: Inxidus wields an Energy Hmmer, making him a front row candidate. He has well-rounded statistics, making him decent in every category.

            Julinda Pendragon
            Age: 24
            Blood type: A-
            CLass: Evoker
            Weapon: Energy Blade
History: Julinda is one of the youngest descendants in the Pendragon line, which has governed the Church of St. Apollyon. Pendragons are the only people who're able to speak directly to the Eidorens outside of Evokers, adn Julinda is no exception. She was educated to be an Evoker, but found her life of luxury and duty to bland. On a whim, she enrolled in a Hexagon co. military school in Avalon, and she met Inxidus Orutiani at age 15.
At age 18, Juinda and Inxidus began a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, although her father, Arthur Pendragon, didn't approve of the relationship. Arthur was delighted when Inxidus had to move to Asgard to enroll in the Sigma Training Facility, but Julinda, being 18 and a full-fledged adult, told her dad to stuff it, and soon also got enrolled in the STF, half for the opportunity, half to be with Inxidus. He and Julinda officially joined Sigma when they turned 20.
In battle: Although Julinda wields an Energy Blade and has very good Strength, her class is Evoker because she promised her mother she'd follow in her footsteps. as an Evoker, Julinda has the ability to summon Eidorens to aid the party in battle, which has proven very useful on past Sigma missions.

Note: Unlike most RPG protagonist boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, by the start of the game, Inxidus and Julinda have been boy/girlfriend for several years now. Also, Inxidus has recently been trying to work up the nerve to propose to Julinda. There may even be a sidequest involving the wedding.....

If you read the rest of his post, then you probably realized that the whole thing is a style homage to FF7 (with a lot of point-blank references to it).

You know what? I think that's kind of neat. It's not a remake, but he's specifically trying to recreate all the things we liked about FF7 (and very few of the things we didn't like about it). It's the most respectful flattery you could give to a game, if you do it well.

And as skeptical as I've become regarding anything that D13 posts, I'm actually really liking what I'm seeing here so far.

(Watch out for your Data Usage, though, D13. It's got one foot in the grave already because a game like this needs to be epic and sprawling to work. The way I see it, trying to make a solid Materia system would probably be pushing the other foot into the grave and sticking a nail in the coffin to boot. I've been running into the same kind of problems on Panacea.)

FF7? WTF? I got my ideas from FF6 (Psychetechs = Magitek) and FFX (Iniquity/Eidorens/Evokers = Sin/Aeons/Summoners). FF7 is out of the blue to me.

Among others, some similarities with 7:
                    Sigma = SOLDIER
                    Hexagon Co. = Shinra
                    Materia-Style Customization = Materia-Style Customization
Midgard = Midgar (I know Midgard exists in myth and wasn't created by FF7, but you still can't help but see the parallel.)

Again, this doesn't change the fact that you very well might be on your way to a great game.

Um, you got some of those wrong
Hexagon co. are the good guys
Asgard is the equal to Midgar. Midgard is the rival kingdom that Hexagon co.'s at war with.
Also, I'm thinking the Psychetechs will be completely store bought, and you can't unequip them. The alternative is just too aggravating in terms of event coding.
As a side note, I'm planning on having no weapons, armor or accessories to buy. Instead, you upgrade your characters' weapons at a adventure shop.

I really don't think I got it wrong. You've got lots of references to Final Fantasy (even your title is a nod to it)--and not just 6 and 10; I mean, even the abbreviation "HorD" seems to be a shout-out to FF8's SeeD. And as such, people are going to be a lot more likely to see other things, even if you didn't intend them:

Hexagon Co. is a research company exploiting spiritual power to create something mighty; the analogy is definitely going to be made to Shinra. I think it's cool that you inverted the cliche by making them the good guys, though!

The name "Midgard" in any RPG will make anyone who knows anything about FF7 think of Midgar. Yes, even if they know the legends of Midgard from myth. You could make "Midgard" an ancient forest elf town, and people will still inexorably think "Midgar."

As for the coding for Materia, didn't you already post something similar that was supposed to work? Why leave a cool idea on the table now? EDIT: You claim to have already done this!

EDIT: Here's the next character bio:

                          Leon Auriniel
                          Age: 42
                          Blood Type: B+
                          Class:Psychetechnician
                          Weapon:Elementana
History:Leon is one of the older, more experienced members of Sigma. He's world renouned for his invention/discovery of "Supertechs", which are Psychetechs that're unique to each human being. He's a very wise and honorable man, and looks upon his superiors, Diego and Mortimer Nocturne, as brothers, because they were the 1st 3 members to form Sigma.
In Battle: Leon is a Psychetechnician (which is a sciency way of saying "mage"), having experience as a Back row castor and a front row fighter. He wields "Elementana", which are swords imbued with various Psyche-based "Elements" to damage Elemental enemies (Element + Katana = Elementana).

                            Here's character #4:

                            Hayner Biggs
                            Age: 26

                            Weapon: Guns (various)
History: Hayner biggs spent most of his life growing up in Asgard. As such, he grew up to be a very patriotic young man. He jumped at the chance to enroll in the Hexagon Military Academy, and later the Sigma Training Facility, to fight for his country and earn respect too. He met and quickly fefriended Inxidus and Julinda, and has always helped them when given the chance.
In battle: As a Gunslinger, Hayner stands in the back rows, dealing damage from a safe distance. He also specializes in "Buff" Psychetechs, enabling him to temporarily increase his party's statistics.
