It's actually flowchart backwards
Long story for another day I suppose
Anyway, I just got RPG Maker 3 yesterday, and I love it.
Only have a few problems.
I started by playing the BraveHeart tutorial, and tried to save progress. Found I had to save data before playing??
Glad I also purchased a new PS2 card! (Whew!)
Played a while, tried to save again, and was informed I could not. Not sure f this is a glitch on the cd or not.
(Just bought the new PS2 unit as well, so it is probably not the PS2's fault)
While I pondered those errors, I logged on here to read in amazement that people are still enjoying this game. (Yay!)
And making new games (double yay!) for it. I wish I could try the winning submissions but have no idea where to download them. No easy link on the front page showing neanderthals such as me where o get the files.
My PS2 setup has Action Replay, not Maxdrive or Dexdrive, so if I ever do learn how to download the files, how do I convert them?
Sorry to flood you with so many questions, but I am very eager to get working with this wonderful program!
Any constructive feedback is welcomed.

Yay! A newbie with a firm grasp on the English language, who seems to NOT be a neanderthal!
As for Action Replay, I'm not sure if regular Action Replay works, or if you need the program called Action Replay Max, but I'm pretty sure if you put a flash drive in the USB port in the front of the PS2, and load it up with RPGM3 games, the regular AR SHOULD have the capability to transfer the files to a PS2 memory card.
As for where to find other users' files, on the main RPG Maker Pavilion page (click the banner logo at the top of this page to get back there), there are links to RPGM3 full games and demos, about halfway down the page on the left side. The new contest games, which I just submitted the judging for a few weeks ago now, should be in these forums under "submissions" until they are put on the main page.
As for Dear Brave Heart, for some dumb reason, you need to actually save that entire game on a memory card beforre you are allowed to save it. Honestly, it's really not worth playing and/or saving anyway. Just keep in mind that only 3 RPGM3 files will fit on a single 8MB PS2 memory card. When I was still using my PS2 for RPGM3 (I now use my PS3), I dedicated one card to other users' games I downloaded, and about 6 cards for my own projects.
And finally, in order to play other peoples' games, you need to download them...click on "full games" (as an example), find the game you want, click the link for discussion, and at the bottom of the first post, there is a link for the download. You need to do this on PC, obviously, and then you need to unzip the folder, drop the file onto the flash drive, and then use Action Replay to transfer it to memory card. There is a link on the front page, I think, discussing how to do all of this, but my PS3 cannot copy and paste, so I just typed it all out.
Well, okay, NOW finally (for real this time), welcome, wolf, and if you have any further questions, please feel free to post in the RPGM Workshop in the RPGM3 forum, or in RPGM General.

Thanks for the welcomes, and the acknowledgment of being a non-retard. (Although my kids would disagree, since I play video games as much as they do)
I am awestruck by the speed of your replies, and love the avatars!
Hopefully my future queries will not be as inane.
Yet...
Under RPG3, would it be possible to add a link to "Game Winners" ?
Maybe I was too worn ut last night to notice it, but when I clicked on "Games" under RPG3 I do not recall seeing Wavelength's submission.

The winners of the most recent contest (I hope you read and enjoyed my reviews, btw :)) have not been added to the main site yet. If you are in the discussion forum, they should still be able to be found under the submissions forum, with a link at the bottom of the post to download.
I might submit my own minigame thing today...I've been needing to for a while, but when I switched out PS3 HDDs, I lost a bunch of RPGM work. Meh.
EDIT: I remember reading in Wavelength's own forum that he has not submitted his file to the site yet...you need to PM him, and he will send you a copy of the file via email.

Welcome to the Pavilion! ^_^ It's so cool to have new peoples who have RPGM and type real good! (yes, that was done on purpose.)
I am not sure of this Action Replay. It sounds..interesting...
So..Flowchart? I am intrigued...
Wavelength

Hey Trackwolf/Flowchart, great to have you at the Pav! As you can see, there is much rejoicing when cool, mature people are added to our community. No pressure. ;)
Thanks so much for the interest in Hell's Dining Room!! It really means a lot to me. I haven't officially submitted it yet because I wanted to polish it up and incorporate peoples' suggestions. However, I am happy to send the version I submitted to the Contest, to anyone who would like it. We can do it through email or AIM or YIM; just send me a private message if you're interested. If you'd rather wait for the official release, I plan to have that available in 1-4 weeks.
Normally, you'll find files in the "Games" and "Demos" links on the left hand bar of the main Pavilion page (http://www.rpgmpavilion.com/), or in the Submissions forum if the game was submitted recently. The major exception is for the Field of Dreams contest, which was about making great, playable World Maps rather than full games. I believe those files were posted in a zip folder directly on the Contests page. In case you're not aware, you'll need a MAX Drive or an AR Max in order to transfer files from your PC to your PS2.
The other strong RPG Maker Communities out there are the RPG Maker Magazine (our less snarky "sister site," if you will) and Doan's Domain (which has some great resources for RPGM2), if you're interested.
Again, welcome, and enjoy yourself here.

I think Doan's is kaput, actually, but the site itself may still be up.
My avvie is an album by the band The God Machine. I need to change it soon.
And thanks for the kind words re: my reviews.
Again, welcome, and if you like flowcharts, there's a pretty decent band called Flowchart. They started out being kinda a Stereolab ripoff, but they discovered their own sound a few albums in.

trahcwolf was borne out of boredom and writer's block
Back in the stone age when trash 80's (TRS-80 Color Computer, the CoCo, made by Radio Shack) were semi-popular, there was a magazine called The Rainbow
The TRS80 boasted a whopping 16k memory. (Yup!)
I upgraded mine to a staggering 64k and submitted some of my ideas to their various contests.
One of my creations was an adventure game, all text of course, similar to the original Zork. (Yeh, I'm that old...and some of the games we played were on cassette tapes!)
In the game, I was looking for an appropriate name for the bad guy. Looking around, I noticed one of my books had been put back on its shelf backwards, a beginner's guide to flowcharts.
The rest is forgotten history.

welcome to the pav.
Where did you get your avatar?
trahcwolf
02-25-2009, 09:25 AM
The avatars I use are all in my photo album
Some are from games I play on PS2, some are merely edits using Photoshop.
The cat giving the middle finger salute I found somewhere.....
The catpope is Pope John Paul with my cat (Muffin) superimposed
The green eyed sword wielder is from a Diablo cd (I like green eyed women)
FZor the record, I'm heterosexual, male, currently unemployed, former Pentagon police officer, and recently released "Guest of the State".
Married (2nd time), 2 daughters (at this moment, one is 16 and the other is 6), reside in Maryland, and have only recently discovered RPGM3.
I have an Xbox (heavily modified) and a PS2. No plans to upgrade anything in the foreseeable future.
Oman! How do I get the word Snugglebutt out of my name?

trahcwolf, you know, I remember programming basic on an old Texas Instruments "computer," probably the TRS80, actually, and yes, I remember storing my data on cassette tape. MIGHT we have a contender for someone older than myself and Obright? :p
Yeah, I've got a soft modded Xbox myself, along with, ummm...lots of other game systems. Oh, and thanks for the friend request. I accepted. Just be prepared to live with a lot of limitations if you start seriously working with RPG3. Many of them have creative workarounds (as evidenced by Wavelength's, Obright's, Pagerron's, and my own games), but just letting you know in advance that they exist.

Ever used a Sinclair or Adam?
TRS 80 is a bit different than the TI
I remember the 5inch floppy, and the bulky external drive
A huge 5 inch held like 360K
Soon after some nerd named Bill Gates said something
like, "Who would ever need more than 64k memory?"
Age competition?
Hmmm
My birthdate is 2 August 1957
Do I win a lollipop?
I modded my TRS80 with switches and such that I could take it on my ten speed bike, and had the power switch remotely controlled. (I began laziness at an early age)
At one time I ran a Bulletin Board System with a Commodore 64 and a huge array of external drives, each dedicated to a separate chat section of the BBS.
I believe it was Searchlight Software.
I referred to Snugglebutt, as it was directly below my name. That was my first wife's CB handle... Is there any way to allow a longer data entry for that section of name customization?
Later dudes...

We have something called rep.
You can give people points (and comments) for posts that you like. All it does is eventually add more little goblis below their username. It also changes the comments that pop up when you highlight them.
See the scale icon? That's how you give out rep. You can only give out a certain amount per day, yadda yadda.

Pentagon security guards was what they started as. Back in 1987, they actually were granted limited powers. By the time those foreign idiots parked that plane into the building in 2001, we got a "very significant" pay raise, and full fledged police status, the ability to (legally) take our weapons home, and finally recognized by all jurisdictions as police officers.
Within three years, I resigned.
Then came the jail time.
And the Jack Nicholson/Richard Nixon cracks.
Free now...
My daughters have dyed my (remaining) hair green and painted my face white. Sadly I have no photos of that.
The resemblance (to my mom, not Jack) was scary.

Reminds me of the line drawing cartoon I saw years ago in response to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)
The cartoon had two panels. First was a sober driver vs a drunk driver, resulting in an accident. Next was two drunk drivers, weaving in such a way that neither made contact.
Below it stated Drunks Against Madd Mothers.
If I find it again I will post it.

There's never a good reason to take a vacation in a correctional (ha!) institution, especially with room mates like Jack Abramoff.
I was in there because I had a momentary lapse of reason, did something stupid, and regret almost everything.
9 years military (honorable discharge), 12 years federal police, ten months jail, and so far 13 months unemployment.
The true punishment is facing the family and being reminded daily by them of the disappointment.
Almost as tough as job interviews that end with "We'll definitely be in touch". No one has "been in touch" in more than a year.

This is your own topic, so it doesn't really matter in this thread, but double and triple posting elsewhere is generally frowned upon.

ARMY- Aint Ready for Marines Yet. Seriously, though, you picked up a weapon and stood a post, and I say thank you, no matter how long ago, or what uniform you wore doing it. And, as far as ground pounders, I was a field radio technician, so I like anybody that keeps me safe in the rear. I can take a bumblebee off a bull's back at 500 yards open-sights, but the closer the bad guys get, the worse I shoot.
With all those MOS's, though, how do you consider yourself a grunt? Sounds like you were a fixer, not a rock-swinger.
trahcwolf
03-04-2009, 10:01 AM
I like that one. Quite true. The Marines are The Few for a reason. Takes a man with brass cahoneys to join that elite club!
Me, I had plastic cahoneys.
Just don't tell Libby.
Angel_Hammer13
03-05-2009, 12:44 AM
I'm not sure what amuses me more... Plastic cahoneys (don't think that's spelled right), or the general public's perception of the Marine Corps. What would the nation think if they knew their security was in the hands of a bunch of retards you wouldn't trust with a potato gun? Okay, maybe that's a little rough; I never worked with a single guy that wasn't an absolute professional when there was a job to do, but some of those guys off the job- Frightening.
Then again, where else in the world can you watch a group of grown men chase a lizard around the desert (with no intention of eating it)? Man I miss that job.

Everyone lets loose off duty
During my overseas days, there were some guys who found sport in filling the service bay (the pit below the vehicles, where mechanics stood, instead of using hydraulic lifts for the jeeps and tanks) with fuel. They would wait for the rats to come up through the drain, and light it, placing bets on how far the rat would survive in its run to the snow.
Yeah, real brain trusts.
Angel_Hammer13
03-06-2009, 06:05 AM
That is awesome! And I realize no one can be expected to be a pro 100% of the time... It's just funny (to me) to sit around with a group of "grown men" throwing rocks at a Hummer (and keeping score, no less), and then come home on leave only to have all these people fawn over me because I wear a uniform. A lot of people have this whole movie-star mystic picture in their mind of the guy from the recruiting poster (even I did, as a boot), and some of the stupidity I witnessed and participated in is so contradictory to said illusion that it really tickles me. It's the irony, I guess.
trahcwolf

Style over substance
My best ex friend who came home on leave a few years back made a point of embellishing the mystique by being a total jerk at a gathering.
Our high school friends had gathered to welcome home their favorite military heroes with a dinner party at Shakey's Pizza parlor.
My goal was to prove my personality had not been adversely affected by our absence, while every sentence he spoke had to include the words "Kill" and " M***** F******".
Since that time, I believe he has continued to populate the planet with miniature versions of himself while staying single and "Marine Motivated". (He might be ready to retire and write a few books by now)
Ok, on a tangent I guess...
Point being, he tried very hard to further the image that Marines earn the name Jarheads. (I know he was an exceptionally bad example)
Angel_Hammer13
03-15-2009, 03:42 AM
There isn't a whole lot that qualifies as a tangent to me... I'm a rather random individual. That's especially true when I get to hear other vets' stories- No matter how young or old, peacetime or war, exciting or mundane; Hearing someone else's experiences is almost as good as the stuff I missed by not reenlisting.
There's a scene in the movie 'Jarhead', where the sergeant, played by one of the Wayans brothers (I think), says (roughly) "It aint money, it aint power or respect, it aint even the [ladies]. You know why I love this job?" And he waves his hand at the fields of burning oil wells he and his platoon are currently slogging through, and says, "Where else in the world do you get to see **** like this?" And that, I find, is the absolute core truth of military service. It isn't for everyone, it may not be glorious, and it's definitely a challenge, but nothing else you ever do can quite compare.
At least, in my eyes...
