    Smooth Move Exlax - "We're the "official" industry leader"

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/hi...ndustry-leader

    Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai has dismissed Microsoft and Nintendo as competitors because he sees PlayStation as the "official" industry leader.

    "This is not meant in terms of numbers, or who's got the biggest install base, or who's selling most in any particular week or month, but I'd like to think that we continue official leadership in this industry," Hirai told Official PlayStation Magazine.

    "It's difficult to talk about Nintendo, because we don't look at their console as being a competitor. They're a different world, and we operate in our world - that's the kind of way I look at things.

    "And with the Xbox - again, I can't come up with one word to fit. You need a word that describes something that lacks longevity," he added with a laugh.

    ~~~
    Hirai also addressed the complex architecture of the PS3, which developers have openly struggled to get to grips with.
    "We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?" explained Hirai.
    I dunno, thats a good way to say your a ****ing idiot whos totally out of touch with everything around you.
    Wait, so he's saying it's better for it to take years for developers to get the hang of a system rather than have games that take full advantage of it from the start? Shouldn't the ideal be to have optimum games all the way from launch through to the next generation? You'd still have improvements based on how the developers use the technology and their time.
    This is not meant in terms of numbers, or who's got the biggest install base, or who's selling most in any particular week or month, but I'd like to think that we continue official leadership in this industry,
    Did he say what it is in terms of?
          What is he supposed to say? "We are inferior?"
                    Nintendo should be the leader because they started the mainstream gaming industry before PLAY STATION. Hell If atari was still making consoles.they would be!
                        Honestly, i think the whole thing is being taken out of context and being twisted around by people into something he never intended, but unless he comes out and explains his comments, there will continue to be the distortion.
                        Sony cant get a break with anyone anymore, and it is kinda sad that MOST of the Sony/PS3 hate started with the KZ2 vid from E3 2005...and well, we have seen how that turned out.
                          Sony can't break even, and Sony hate began with Playstations and Playstation 2s getting Disc Read Errors, faulty Walkman players (CD and MiniDisc) and a lot more than that.
                          But let's not get into that!
                            He also points out Sony's besting of Microsoft in Japan year after year, as reason why this global fight isn't quite over.
                            Xbox will never win in japan. They dont like playing on filthy gaijin systems.
                              This is Kaz Hirai. He's a ****ing idiot. Nothing was taken out of context. He said what he intended to say. He gave it context. he's delusional, a terrible businessman, and every time he opens his mouth he helps ruin Sony.
                              If Sony would just fire his ass, public opinion of the company and the PS3 would change the very hour it happened.
                              Sony cant get a break with anyone anymore, and it is kinda sad that MOST of the Sony/PS3 hate started with the KZ2 vid from E3 2005...and well, we have seen how that turned out.
                              No it didnt. Sony was pulling Bullshots out of their ass since the PS2 days when their duck tech demo fetish started. thats not why people hate Sony and you know it. People hate Sony because they employ morons like Kaz Hirai and directly insult their userbase with comments like "people will work more hours to afford one" and that people would buy their hardware even without games. and the sixaxis. the piece of **** sixaxis controls that only work properly in warhawk. oh, and the complete removal of PS2 support in the PS3, that was said to be a cost-cutting measure. not at all. the last version of PS2 backwards compatability was software based, and didnt add one cent to the cost of the system's production. They just wanted to keep the PS2 selling. nothing more, nothing less. Oh, and there's the PSP. I dont even need to talk about what a disaster that thing is. of course, we have the LBP ****storm that hit a while ago. it's fixed now, but it's still a legit reason for hatred.
                              There's LOTS of reasons to dislike sony.
                              The only way they're leading the industry is with PR failures. everyone is watching and learning from what they're doing in that field. I'm positive that Sony's examples are what's responsible for making Reggie finally shut his goddamn mouth.
                              This new mess just makes ME feel stupid for defending the HELL out of the PS3 at another forum recently.
                              More related to the topic, analyst Michael Pachter said some stuff you may like:
                              Pachter is almost as big of a tool as Kaz. for a top-ranked analyst, he sure has a craptacular track record with his predictions.
