I'm starting to try to do professional written game reviews, so this will probally be on of the more well typed posts of mine.
I got this game along with an Xbox 360 for christmas, and I'd be lieing if I said my older experiances of Crash Bandicoot games didn't influence my review of it, Crash Bandicoot, 1, 2, and 3.
Game play: 5/10
It says on the box contains classic crash bandicoot game play, which is really a load of crap. Unless they mean crash has the same moves, then yes. But now Crash, and his enemies have health (All enemies), and you don't go to a warp area with 5 levels then a boss, it's all one universe. Which you better get used to running back and forth in multiple times, just on different pets which brings me to my next point. After you kill a large enemy you get on his back and run around on him, which does provide some of the best parts of the game, but gets old fast, not to mention there are usually 3 monsters that are usually almost the exact same so it’s very repetitive, and once you get a decent pet you usually have to give it up for a lesser pet just because you have to freeze some water, do a loop, or move a switch. But since when has crash used pets? You can really see Activisions influence is some aspects as you can customize the way Crash looks, and of course there is some locked outfits. Sure it's fun, but on a game like this it's a waste, use those ideas for games like Guitar Hero, Activision, and what happened to the masks? all you can do now is pretty much make a shield out of the masks, which doesnt even help and is usually a waste of time. It might be useful like 2% of the time.
Graphics & Cut scenes: 6/10
The graphics aren't bad, but I again blame this on Activision is now the cut scenes appear like the cut scenes off of Guitar Hero 3: Legends Of Rock. If you are unaware with that, then they look like the gorillas music videos. But the in game graphics aren't amazing but they look like how a crash bandicoot video game should. If crash bandicoot had perfects graphics would take away from the playing experience. I think if there’s one thing they did right, it was in game graphics.
Sound: 2/10
Let me say, the sound ruined this for me. I was ready to put my TV on mute. Every units speaks, and there annoying too. In the Evil School I was about to stop because of all the little high pitch girl voices saying 10 things per minute, and not even funny things, and every time you hit them they say stuff, and you need to hit them about 4 times to kill them. Not to mention the background music didn't really wow me in comparison to games like Crash Bandicoot: Warped ( 3 ).
Overall: 5/10
This game didn't fail. But it failed as a Crash Bandicoot game. I really think this game would of been all right if it wasn't living up to the name Crash Bandicoot. But it is, so it failed.
