    The Witcher Enhanced

I'm surprised you guys aren't talking about it. CD Projekt just released the "enhanced edition" which is basically a special edition containing the OST, the short story the game is based on, full color map, revised manual, and a bunch of fixes to the main game like reduced load times and revised script.

(it wouldn't be a pc rpg without running through massive fields)

For those that don't know The Witcher was an RPG quietly released last year that got lost in the hectic Fall season. The best part about the game is its "time-delay" plot which changes based on the choices you make after you make them. In most RPGs, choices you make take an immediate effect and have little to no impact afterwards. In The Witcher, the result of your choices won't even be apparent until later in the game adding replay value and reducing save-reload syndrome. The game's plot is really well written (Bioware/early Black Isle quality) and the world itself doesn't fall under the high fantasy tropes that the Lord of the Rings films beat to death.

(you can either fight battles from a "traditional" overhead perspective...)

(or an over-the-shoulder perspective where you use the WASD keys to move)

For 40$ you get a high quality product and great packaging. I have to say this is RPG of the year IMO (not like there's any other competitors).

(i love the game's art style and it has a rather unsaturated palette without resorting to BROWN GRAY TAN textures on every object)

I wanted to play this however I am a sucker for character customization in my rpgs. I can't really see any in this one. I could be wrong.

The main character is set in stone but there's an intuitive alchemy system which kind of functions like the enchantment system in the elder scrolls games. You basically mix up ingredients into powerful potions (and no it's not as boring as running through a field picking mushrooms and weeds). These potions enhance your attributes but, depending on the ingredients used, poison your system. Overdosing on potions has negative effects so there's always a balance between using tried and true ingredients and experimenting with more powerful concoctions.

Yeah, i just downloaded the EE update for my copy of the Witcher on Friday night and played it for a few hours on Saturday, and i love the changes they have made. It definitely seems "Enhanced" from before, and i like being able to put all of my settings at max, and the game still run very smoothly and, with the changes, load much MUCH faster than before.

Speaking of which, I'm glad they allowed people to download the enhanced edition if you owned a copy of the original. I bought it anways just to have a hard copy, but too many companies these days are waiting a year to release enhanced versions of older products in the market.

I have an itching feeling that next year we'll see Metal Gear Solid 4: Sustenance or something.

Actually, it is probably going to be subtitled Existence, since Konami has already patented it.

Did you know that they actually censord this game? They also made change and cuts to the dialoge too?

They censored the sex related cards but the cuts to the dialog were actually translation issues that the proofreader didn't feel was necessary.

You can probably download the uncensored sexual encounter cards somewhere not like it makes much of a difference.

                        Persona 4, Fallout 3 and Fable 2 aren't competitors?

Persona 4, far as I know, has the latest release in December.

Fable 2 is coming out soon (10/21/08) and Persona 4 is supposed to be out 12/9/08. (Those are Gamestop dates.)
I have heard good things about Witcher, haven't had a chance to play it yet though.
