    Saints Row 2

    Now slated for October 14th.

People are overreacting...people don't realize the insane amount of work that go into the SR games. Besides, they delayed it when I was working on the first, and it was all timing based. I'm sure THQ wants the smoke to clear from GTA4, and perhaps implement a few ideas from GTA4 (turnabout is fair play, GTA4 did rip off a lot of things off from SR after all).

    So uh, yeah.

The first one was decent. I hated playing as a mute.

I wouldn't call it ripping off because they're generic ideas but the waypoint system and cell phone (although Saint's Row celly wasn't that important) is the first that comes to mind.

Personally, I thought Saint's Row did a lot of things better than GTAIV and I was both surprised and angry to see that Rockstar didn't bother to use those features when they should be an industry standard for a game like this. Saint's Row had a built in mp3 player that let you create custom soundtracks using in-game music or from your harddrive which let you listen to songs on foot and in the car without resorting to a radio. Saint's Row used a dual analog control system which is 30x better than GTA's "hold down trigger for free aim". This basically gives you free reign over the game's camera and GTAIV's camera is still pretty horrendous and auto-lockon should be a feature removed from any future 3rd person shooter. SR let you customize your own vehicles and vehicles you customized were saved so if you ever lost them you could go to a shop and get the car back for a small price. It also had greater control over your character's appearance with hundreds of different clothing and one of the better "create-a-character" features I've seen in a game. Finally, Saint's Row had a better map system which let you filter out certain icons.

It definitely lacked the polish and professionalism that Rockstar puts in their games but Saint's Row had way better features and if it weren't for the fact that Rockstar puts in a lot of good work I would honestly say I prefer SR to GTAIV.

I think I feel the same way. GTAIV is a better game in terms of polish, production, etc. but I think Saints Row is more enjoyable to play and has a lot of features Rockstar should have considered for their product. If the popularity competition between the two series was closer, they probably would have.

P.S. I love how Saints Row lets you rewatch/replay all the cutscenes/missions you've previously seen/completed. That should be a mandatory in every game made from now until the end of time.

Yeah, most of them were mentioned, like the GPS and using a taxi or buddy to effectively warp on the map. Also, one of the big things...

            WHICH WAS MY SUGGESTION!!!

...was to have an option to replay the mission after you failed. I mentioned how frustrated I was playing San Andreas, failing a car mission, then spending 15-20 minutes getting back to the starting point? No thanks.

...so, being able to replay the mission? That **** is all me...at least I'm pretty sure.

The only thing that made me really mad about SR was how long the missions were and the lack of checkpoints (another big problem with GTAIV). The Vice King missions were especially guilty of this like when you have to drive around that prostitute to different stores, evade a bunch of your buddies gunning for you (in a limo which wasn't easy depending on your luck), then you had to shoot your way through a guy's house. If you died you had to do the entire thing over again.

What exactly are you doing specifically? Character designer? Level designer? Coffee boy?

All those features seem ripped off of GTA3:SA (I know the PC version had custom music) except improved...

Saints Row has improved things but for some reason the GTA series always stays on top. Probably because it came first and people were already used to it and can instantly remember it when someone talks about Free-roaming games.

New SR2 trailer out. Call it bias (having worked on the first one and all), but I thought SR's story was WAY more interesting then GTA, and I have to admit GTA4 really disappointed me in that department...the same old mob/disrespect/loyalty/kill this guy for me crap! Still, this trailer makes me smile, I like the lavish crazy characters...and Worf.

                        Saint's Row broke Chad's 360. True story.

I picked this up at midnight...OMG. After playing 3 hours of co-op, I've already had waaaaay more fun then I ever did playing GTA4. Clicking in on the thumbstick goes into RE4 over the shoulder shooting view (was in the first but was cut due to complications), and you can also go double blaze w/ a gun in each hand. Character customization is pretty amazing, with 3 voices for both genders (or you can have a opposite sex's voice for you character if you want), and co-op story mode works seamlessly. You can blow so much stuff up together in Mayhem activities it's hilarious, and there are also special melee kills for each weapon...I had a katana and skewered a guy's head! There's also a great zombie invasion mode where you fight off hordes of zombies. Co-op makes everything more fun.

Seriously, you guys have to get this, it's a freaking blast.
