    Should I go for it?

Well I'm about to graduate high school and I need to think of a career. I have been thinking about going to college for game design. Two of my best buddies that I've know forever have been telling me just to try, but I'm still kind of skeptical.

It would be my dream job, but I don't know how realalistic that goal is. I just don't want to start spending a crap load of money on classes and stuff if it wouldn't pay off. I need to think ahead considering the fact that my parents really can't afford to help me to much.

The problem is I don't really have that much experiance. I'm more then willing to work for it, but what are the chances of actually getting into that kind of job? I don't know if I want to take the chance. This is a big decision that I need to make, that could effect my future.

What do you guys think? Is it worth a try?

I know it's cliche, but I say go for your dream. Go for it one hundred and ten percent! If you don't ever try to make it happen, then you will never be able to contribute to some great game in the future, and your dream will remain just that, a dream. I, too, want to go to college for 'game art and design' or just a degree in art. But my mom is with limited funds...and, well my dad is out of the picture. There is a good chance I won't even go to college...But, no matter what anyone tells me, I am NEVER going to give up my dream for anything, which is the dream of being an artist/illustrator for games! Whohoo I only have about a month and a half until I'm done forever with hiiigh school^_^

Shoot for you dream, have a practical back up. Might take some time to reach your goals but once you do it's worth it. Take it from somebody who's never acheived a single one of his dreams.

If you can't get into a professional job right away, you can at least create a bunch of demo games at home to show off as a portfolio when you do attempt to get work.

Well, do you have any experience tightening up the graphics on level 3?

There's no reason to just focus on one thing. Take classes that leave you with multiple options for a career choice, cause who knows what's going to happen over four years?

Haha, wouldn't it be a doosie, Lausen, if both of our dreams came true, and we both got stuck on the same development team for the same game one day in the future^_^

Every job sucks, so you might as well shoot for one you're foolish enough to think you might like.

If it really is your dream, there should be no question. There's always a way to make it work, and if you're passionate about what you do, odds are you won't be out of work. It's better to be poor and happy than rich and miserable.

Re: Should I go for it?

do research before you get into a career. make sure the job you want is going to have opening available so at the end of your studies you will have a good chance of getting a job. the video game field is probably going to be saturated with tons of other people looking to do the same thing so id honestly look to something else, even another facet along that line so you wont be stuck with huge debts and no job.

if your unsure about what you want to do then by all means go out and work for a bit until you do know. its completely not worth your time to jump into a field just for the sake of getting some schooling. loans are going to set you back a few years, not to mention the amount of time it takes to go through the education to get them.

Yea a lot of other idiots (I'm not saying you are) are looking for that same job... I don't suggest you try to get it because you probably wont... Although I did read in a engineering magazine that by 2010 there would be an job increase for computer engineering (Your video-game making would be somewhere within this category) by 40%!

That's definitely looking up! Although I still don't think its a very good idea...
