Is this the dumbest concept for a movie ever?

Let's discuss.

I say yes.

Seraph

I concur. It has the potential to be funny, but I doubt it won't fail.

I think it looks good.

I know nothing about this movie, so my answer is yes, no, maybe.

Jamos,

Jack Black and Mos Def run a VHS rental store. All the tapes get erased, so the only solution is for them to remake every movie with a handheld camcorder and themselves as the actors.

Now I like Michel Gondry and all but the buzz is that this is his worst movie and that includes Human Behavior.

Seraph
02-21-2008, 07:58 PM
The only movie I liked Jack Black in was Hi-Fidelity. And Mos Def? No thanks. I don't remember a single rapper/actor who was competent at either profession.

I think the movie could be funny, and I think it's a clever idea as ridiculous of an idea as it sounds, but I think it's doomed to fail. It probably won't though.

The only way that this could suceed is that Jack Black can sometimes carry an entire movie (I actually liked Pick of Destiny.) I doubt this will work but occasionally he can just pull an amazing performance out of his ass and just rock.
Of course since this won't be a rock opera chances are low. But if they can get some clever parodies in there, instead of the Meet the Spartans pop culture fare...it's possible.

Gloom
02-21-2008, 08:31 PM
I think it looks funny. Who says it's Gondry's worst movie?

"Watcha' gunna' do about Ghost-BUST-ers!"

"What's that?"

"The Ghostbuster's theme."

"No, it's not."

"I'm pretty sure it is."

C'mon! That's GOLD.

I loved Pick of Destiny. School of Rock was awsome too. You people dont know how to rock out.

I'm tired of dumb parody movies. At least this one has an original idea that doesn't involve massive amounts of sex jokes and beer belly humor.

And besides! It's two guys acting like idiots on home video! GHOST BUSTERS!

That reminds me of a skit from either All That or The Amanda Show. All I know is Amanda Whatsherface was in it. It was pretty much about a rental store that rented out crappy home movies based on more popular movies. In other words, I'm leaning towards it not being good... then again it may surprise me like School of Rock. I may see when it comes out for rental.

Doesn't appeal to me at all.

Looks goofball.

Eternal Sunshine made me incredibly depressed and I hated the plotholes.

His Bjork videos are cool, though.

But who cares about music videos, eh?

Strange.

Cute is actually the word I would use to describe it as well.

And I liked Michael Gondry's music videos...never seen one of his movies, though.

I think there was a movie made about simpleman. Except he was a crazy 14 year old girl obsessed with a 40 year old writer. So when do we get to the part where he goes to the looney bin. :|

Then go watch Ali again. I don't care if he does Daddy Daycare 3, Ali gives him a golden ticket. That plus Men In Black was a catch tune. For like the first week but still.

One of the benefits I have from not reading the book is liking the movie. I found it to be a fun little movie.

Before I saw it I read that it wasn't actually based on the book and shared some of the same themes so I was able to enjoy the movie too. It wasn't classic cinema moment or anything, but it was an entertaining two hours. But then I haven't read the book either so who knows.

Be Kind doesn't seem like a parody movie so much as a slapstick comedy. The trailer is funny but those are often deceiving.

You can't completely write off an actor for one (or even a few) bad movies. Even some of the respected actors of our time have done some complete crap.

Well, he's more competent as an actor anyway. I like the movies he's been in, it's just unfortunate he's in them.

Dreamknight
02-22-2008, 09:44 AM
Everything Will Smith touches turns to gold and after doing a ton of movies that have made a lot for studios he still doesn't ask for all much money when he does movies.

Screw all y'all.

Seraph

I'm not saying he's a good or bad actor. I just find him annoying and not at all charming.

Ill suck it up and be the one who takes the punch and say that I think Will is a real good actor, I personally try to watch any movie with him in it, the only other actor I do this with is Morgan Freeman, everyone else sucks.

Jamos
02-22-2008, 11:19 PM
I'm kinda with JPS on this one. Will Smith is just fine, even if he is with the crazy people waiting for the mothership.

Anyway, as for the movie at hand, it is either going to rock or flop. I'm leaning more on flop, but I've been wrong before.

Stormy
02-23-2008, 12:32 AM
Well... I guess if I ignore the false relationship drawn toward the book it was a pretty good movie. Chuck Rich made a pretty good point, because I still think Jennifer is a good actress even after watching half of "If Only." I seriously couldn't watch anything after Jennifer's character died, it was a horrible movie. The male lead was a terrible actor, like REALLY bad.

Toaster
02-23-2008, 02:47 AM
So did anybody watch this movie?

I wanted to see it because not much else was out but we decided watch Fool's Gold instead. I couldn't help but think that I was playing--or rather watching Uncharted: Drake's Fortune the entire time though. It wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't great movie either. More of a harmless two hour diverstion.

John Mora
02-23-2008, 03:46 PM
I saw it and it was disappointing. Still sorta cute and funny... but disappointing. There's a line between wacky goofball and blathering idiot and Jack Black speeds past it at 90mph.
