    Handwashing.

Recently, I read an article on digg saying that in a study of handwashing, almost all women washed their hands, but only 66% of the men did.

    http://www.asylum.com/2008/01/23/kee...-washing-more/

This led me to thinking about my own bathroom etiquette. Yes, I wash my hands after going {number 1} and {number 2}, but I've noticed that some of my hallmates do not wash their hands, regardless of what business they do. I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer on my person, not all the time, but in my room whenever I feel my hands are in need of it. I really don't see why handwashing is ignored. 20 effing seconds of lather and rinse! Christ, I can't say anymore...

Nearly all of women? Huh. I see plenty of women walk out of the stall and straight out through the door. These are the ladies who **** all over the seat too.

I really don't get why people don't wash their hands when coming out of the bathroom. It's just...ew.
In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.

My penis is less disgusting than any surface in a public bathroom. If all I did was a quick #1, I dont see a reason to wash.

I only wash my hands in public restrooms, whether I'm at work or not.

thats how i see it. no handwashing for a #1 for me. i wish bathrooms didnt have any doors unless for stalls. its really stupid to wash your hands then have to open a door to get out. but i think we had this argument once before.

Okay, I understand the guys thinking their germs don't affect anyone else but themselves... typical. I have come to terms with it for the most part.

My main beef is when Karr comes home from riding the subway. I have asked him numerous times if he would lick a subway pole. he always says no, but won't wash his hands anyways.

              Fine.

I wonder how people like you become that way, were you raised like that? I don't know, not meaning this in a bad way, just wandering.

But what I do know is no matter how many time you wash your hands, as soon as they are exposed to the air they're going to have germs on them again, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of germs you breathe into your lungs every time you take a breath.

Germs are overrated to a lot of people, yes, I was my hands often, but only for the sake of keeping them clean, I could care less about germs, I haven't gotten sick or anything for about 6 years now, so apparently everyone doesn't have to wash their hands every five minutes to stay healthy.

Now don't get me wrong, I wont walk around and touch stuff that I know a butt-picker who hasn't washed has touched, nor will I pick up trash or other stuff off of a sidewalk or anything, I hate getting my hands dirty, but like I said, its not for the germs, its for them being clean.

Maybe I'm just looking at this the wrong way? I don't know, but eh.

                    Re: Handwashing.

I was raised to generally wash my hands, but I wasn't given sanitizer as a kid or had the idea of germs being bad rammed down my throat.

However, after I got salmonella yadda yadda yadda .....quarantine... organ failure.. yadda yadda yadda I was banned from swimming in public water for 2 years because I was still contagious. I had to learn at age 10 what damage NOT washing my hands could do, and so I did become a germa phobe after that.

I have since improved (stopped carrying sanitizer with me EVERYWHERE) but I know that when I become a mother, I may go back to my old ways with that lil sensitive life in my hands.

My clean sanitized hands ha ha

That train of thought is exactly why the public bathroom is as disgusting as it is.

Agreed. Also, I don't open doors with my hand anymore. I use a paper towel or the base of my shirt.

thats why we wont have children anytime soon. im not raising children who are scared of every damn stupid thing out there. my children are going to get immune systems of steel and fight every germ they get on their feet, not run and cry and dash for the hand sanitizer. we need children with less fears, not more.

i agree with the comment about germs being over rated. we have lived with germs since time began, they really arnt as bad as everyone says. you should wash your hands before you eat and after dirty exercises but other then that there isnt much need.

Sure, there are germs everywhere, but I just can't see how anyone can pee then go and eat a sandwich without washing their hands. Would you be ****** if you went to a restaurant and saw an employee at the urinal walk straight out because he doesn't think he penis is dirty? Or would you take a slice of pizza from a friend you knew just came out of the bathroom without washing? If not, then nevermind, and more power to ya. Sure, you're probably not going to get SARS (or even the sniffles, for that matter), but still. Why not wash your hands? My teeth aren't going to rot if I skip brushing that day, but I still brush everyday anyway.

I'm not one of those people that advocates washing every five minutes or always carrying around sanitizers--after all, you get sicker that way because you never get to build up an immune system. However, not washing after going to the bathroom? Just...gross.
