I noticed in the new issue of Game Informer in an ad for the new Turok game that if you pre-ordered it, you get a free T-shirt and demo disc. I went there after work, and inquired if it was something they give you on release of the game, or if they give it to you now. She said now if they had any left. So she checked, and I guess they only had one more. So I beat around the bush a bit, acting interested in the game, and put $6.83 down as a preorder. Then I casually asked if I changed my mind, if it was possible to use the credit towards something else. She said it was.

Turok for the N64 was probably my 3rd or 4th game for the system. I enjoyed it enough to buy Turok 2, and played the hell out of the multiplayer. However, I have next to no interest in this new game...certainly not enough interest to plunk down $60 on release day, in any case.

So has anyone else done this (putting money down on a preorder to get free stuff, knowing full well you won't be buying the game the free stuff is for)?

Oh, I don't plan on wearing it in PUBLIC...it's just something to wear to avoid doing laundry for another day.

There's nothing wrong with getting an extra shirt. Who doesn't want an extra shirt? I mean, the game store doesn't care as long as they get some of your money.

But, no, I've never even thought of doing that. Who would do something that ****ty anyway?

I don't see any problem with it. The game publisher (or whoever) gives pre-order promos to give the stores a reason to advertise preorders for their game, which they did. The store just wants your money. Whether that $6.83 goes toward the purchase of Turok or Pokemon or butterscotch and penny whistles the point is they got it. And the cashier still gets to add a +1 to their preorder quota. Everybody gets what they wanted. Except you cause now you're stuck with a Turok shirt.

If they didn't want people doing this they'd just enact a policy that cancelling a preorder would forfeit your deposit. So unless that happens, knock yourself out.
