Re: A two-minute video to restore your faith in humanity
doesnt change my faith in humanity at all. good to see some people decided to stop laughing and actually help the poor guy. arnt you suppose to sing the anthem along with him anyway? disrespect is rampant, atleast in the end they gave him the respect he deserved.

No, you're not. You sing along to Take Me Out To The Ballgame.
The mentally handicapped creep me out.The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Re: A two-minute video to restore your faith in humanity
ironically i actually think the anthem is good even though im canadian and hate most things american. the anthem depicts the american style of freedom, triumph, fighting for rights, and endurance quite well. even if america doesnt always hold true to their harold beliefs and ideals, the anthem still serves as a damn good reminder as to why america as a nation exists. perhaps you should look at bit deeper and rediscover your nations identity and what it means to you?Originally posted by İhuck View PostI think people only laughed because it seemed like he was giggling at first. I thought he was. Also, I still think we have a stupid national anthem.
i cant believe im acually defending this. as a side note i like our national anthem too: o canada.
these anthems wernt tossed together out of the blue, and they have lasted for many years and decades so clearly something special must be deeply rooted in them besides tradition.

I just never liked that our anthem is about the flag. Not the nation, or its people, but about the flag itself. Sure the flag symbolizes the nation but why couldn't the song be explicit? It's like if Canada's anthem was O Maple Leaves, could have the same meaning but the context trivializes it. And why do we only use half the song?I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

I think maybe you missed the point of the poem. It's about perserverance in the face of a greater foe, and the hope that a prisoner of war clings to that while his freedom is taken, what he fought for...his country, his way of life, everything he holds dear, still exists. It's not about the flag. It distills the purest parts of what it means to be American into a nice little British drinking tune.
Edit: As for not being explicit...I'd argue the implication of meaning is a stronger statement.Last edited by Shard; 11-27-2007, 08:07 PM.So you're a fish out of water...

Re: A two-minute video to restore your faith in humanity
I watched this a few days ago and it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside, then I read a news article about an orangutan being chained up and used as a prostitute.
Damn you, humanity.Last edited by Garr123; 11-27-2007, 08:17 PM."At first it just looked like a picture of a bunch of lily pads, but then I started scraping at it with my pocket knife and the whole painting just sort of spoke to me," Schmidt said. well said and of course true. the song is not just about the flag, but about everything the flag stands for, which is everything the american culture is suppose to stand for.Originally posted by Shard View PostI think maybe you missed the point of the poem. of course to everyone the meaning is different and its up for opinion. i just find it odd that a country so rooted in its patriotism would not like the anthem.
i wana see a song about maple leaves. that reminds me, i really dont know a lot about my own flag.
