Me and Jase are considering CoH/CoV. Do any of you play? What servers?
Jeroak Nelave
11-24-2007, 10:56 PM
I play, mostly on Virtue, Victory has become my overflow server, as I am an altoholic. I personally love the game, i havent played as much lately because i have had an influx of console games that have been keeping me busy.
Honestly, i prefer it over WoW, but i think my favorite part is the costume creation, you really can do just about anything, and they are always adding new costume parts and we are getting 2 new powersets with Issue 11, which is probably coming out on Tuesday (all game updates are free).
Ryner

Yes, there's no question that character creation is the most enjoyable part. The first few days are really fun too, playing with your powers and running around the superhero world. But the game just got boring for me, it's really a grind to level up with not much variety.
Jeroak Nelave
11-24-2007, 11:02 PM
Its not perfect, it does need a little more variety, but if you intend to solo, it can get old quickly, but if you find a good powerset, for find a good bunch of people to build a friend list to group with, then the game doesnt get old at all.

My favorite character was in COV, an electric / electric brawler. The best power set in my opinion.

I'm still playing of course, most of mycharacters are on virtue, and a few on victory, and the rest scattered here and there.

8-man teams constantly doing Freakshow or better missions over and over and over and over again. Then getting in a supergroup and having somone powerlevel you...
Jeroak Nelave
06-12-2008, 12:26 AM
Yeah, thats probably the problem, now i love fighting freakshow, i could kill them all damn day and night, but i dont do the power leveling thing.
Omnislash024
06-13-2008, 06:55 PM
Not a big power leveler either. I like playing for fun. To me it seems like work if your going to powerlevel. To be honest, you miss most of the game content if you do.
Snarf
06-13-2008, 08:11 PM
I use to hang around and do the big booger down in the sewers a lot until they nerfed it for power leveling. What we would normally do is just mission after mission after mission... story arcs are by far the best for some good exp and seeing all the gangs. I was never the one to farm the streets though.
Red Dragon
06-13-2008, 08:18 PM
In Villains there is a mission in Grandville where there are Nemesis and Family.
Usually 1 brute can wipe the place out (saving the boss) then we all exit and repeat. Giving tons of exp and money, all while just waiting for the brute to finish the job.

06-13-2008, 08:34 PM

Jeroak Nelave
06-13-2008, 08:37 PM
I love Masterminds, but i think they could do much more with them. There are only 5 MM primaries, i could think of 5 or more additional, even using existing game assets, that would be awesome.
I think brutes are an awesome mix of tank and scrapper, but there isnt much else that i like in villains.
Scrappers, Blasters and Trollers are my faves in Heroes.

So with Champions Online months away at least (still supposed to be Spring 09) and DCUO not expected until next year is it still worth it to get into City of? Has the addition of user created missions reinvigorated the game?
Chuck
04-17-2009, 09:50 PM
I guess this answers my question.
In a letter to the community posted on the official City of Heroes website, Matt "Positron" Miller revealed that within the first 24 hours of the new updates' existence, players in both hero and villain factions had created more than 3800 story arcs, each consisting of five missions a piece - more content than the development team had created during the game's entire existence.
Players have been busy trying out missions and critiquing them in the forums as well. Out of the more that 20,000 arcs now available in game, 2,860 of them have been rated 5-stars by players, with only 582 rated at 1-star. Popular themes include the 5th Column, featured in 794 arcs; the super-heroic Statesman, starring in 134; and time travel, which is the subject of 112 arcs.
Also the five year anniversary is coming up. I'm sure they have something cool planned. Or maybe releasing Architect was that. Is anybody still playing this?
Dreamknight

Honestly guys, I feel that Champions is actually a step BACKWARDS from City of Heroes. I actually was in the beta testing they have been doing, but i'm done with it. I've deleted the game and dont plan to participate in anymore beta tests.
But with the new Mission Architect that they have released for City of Heroes, it has added alot to the game, and really does feel fun and some of the storylines that have been created are pretty good, and a couple that are downright hilarious!

Ok tried outt he Architect.
It's good very good.
Not RPGM good but like a step behind it kind-of good.
Made a mission where you find an elite boss to help you fight the baddies, open door controls so that a swarm of demon-things invade the base then you go ahead and attack the arch-villain boss.
You can make your own enemy sets as well. You can mix and match powersets with them too, making an archer with Archery and Trick Arrow, or a knight with Broadsword and Shield or even a necromancer with fire domination is really neat.
Dunno if anyone plays but check out "Legacy of a Dragon Chapter 1" if you do.
Jeroak Nelave
05-03-2009, 10:15 AM
I'll have to check yours out sometime. I created a story arc yesterday, although i published it without it being finished because i wanted my roommates to be able to play it and see what they thought. I have 3 out of 5 missions finished. My arc is called "Stalking the Mongoose". I'm just hoping that it works out well.

ZOMG FRIEND CODES
Ya, I got mine reviewed on another board. It has way too many spelling errors and it's very bland so I am probably going to scrap it. My grammar is horrible and it doesn't make to a good mission.
yeah but Champions Online lets you create your own arch-nemesis that factors into your quests. D:
but they'll probably implement something like the Architect feature into Champions. Champions is going to be sooooo tight.
Jeroak Nelave
05-03-2009, 08:45 PM
Well it isnt quite the same, but with the Mission Architect, we can pretty much create our own archvillains too.
Seriously, a couple of my heroes and villains have parallel stories. I have a hero named Jeremiah Celt who is a technomage, and a villiain named Black Spark who are arch nemesis. I could create a story arc where i could use Jeremiah Celt to defeat Black Spark if i wanted, and although it wouldnt be quite the same, the concept is similar.
Also, Champions isnt all that fun. Champions is basically a button mashing MMO, that feels like a step back from City of Heroes/Villains.
Edit: Red, the Arc ID for my story is 142344
Red Dragon
05-03-2009, 10:54 PM
Ya, the architect lets you make your own minions, lieutenents, Bosses, Epic bosses, and Arch-Villains. to fight against. You can even incorperate your own allies into this as well. Or even yourself if you wanted too.
It's not the same thing sure, but honestly, I think Crypic kind-of shoved itself in a hole for Champions to come out.
well it sounds like I'm missing a lot when it comes to City of Heroes. I'm still pumped for Champions, but I may have to renew my subscription to CoH for a month and see what's up.

I want to know what these farms are that you are doing that are increasing your levels so quickly, seriously! I'm willing to farm the last few levels on my hero to unlock the kheldians. And I want to get my MM to lvl 50 so i can unlock the Arachnos classes.

I dunno about hero side, I don't play it, currently I have 3 level 50s though 2 of which were pretty much legit. I also got a couple 30-somthings.
Just go on your second build and train it to 40, 54 farms work but 42s are better.
Then just go to Cap au diable or Mercy Island and say "Looking for 42 Rikti Farm"
Profit!
The best ones IMO are the ones with explosives in them, just a cluster of Riktis and an explosive destructable. just hit em with an AOE then kill the bomb and BOOM they're dead and you get 4000 exp per kill.
Oh, and not only did I get to 50 but that level 1 by the end of it had over 54 million infamy.
They are patching it up very soon, it's on the test server already meaning probably this week.
If I can, I will get my Corruptor up some levels before it is patched. However probably not to 50.

COH looks wonderful. It looks bad if your graphics are set to low, but it totally looks better than a lot of MMOs out now.
Then you got all those particle effects and stuff going on with everyone, plus pets and everything.
It gets messy. But still looks great for an MMO. It's not Age of Conan, but really, what is?

Red Dragon
05-23-2009, 10:04 PM
In Freedom you will be shunned for RPing.
Play on Virtue and you get a ton of RPers (those are the only 2 servers people play on really). Just head out to Pocket D (It's like a Hero+Villain nightclub) and you have a huge crowd of people RPing all the time. Some more pleasent than others. As well as a lot of RP guilds floating around.
You might want to just get the trial first.
I've already got the game (both Heroes and Villains) and I've played it in the past. I like the mechanics and the character creation, and I'm absolutely wild about the premise and setting (a lot more than I am about Warcraft's). so I'm pretty confident that if I give it another try, I'll enjoy it more since it's been a couple of years since I played it. plus, I'm absolutely salivating over the prospect of making my own storyline missions.
