It was bound to happen to me. (360 related) UPDATE

I've always had that fear of my XBox 360 getting the Red Ring of Death, but something else happened that's equally bad.

My 360's disc tray started acting a little funny on me when I tried to play my 360 the other day. I paid it no attention for a bit thinking it'd just stop after a while. But then when I try playing some game discs, the tray just opens by itself. The disc tray kept spitting out my disc. I insert the disc and try to start a game, but the tray just opens without even playing the game.

My 360 will play not one of my games. Just opens the tray as if to reject the disc. No red ring or anything like that, but as of now, I don't know what the **** is wrong with it. Fortunately, I have the warranty, so I just mailed my 360 to Microsoft so they can fix it. I hope I explained the problem well enough for them to solve this mysterious disc tray affliction. It'll take a few weeks.

Well, I have a Wii and PS3 to keep my busy until then. But I'm going to miss playing the 360 and its arcade for a while.

Sorry, guys, I had to release some steam.

You'll be one of the many not playing Halo 3 this week, eh?

Misty, my condolences on your 360. Hope it gets fixed soon, k?

Have you tried playing a DVD to see if it's just the games it's spitting out?

I never had the console open the tray on me, but my first xbox did have problems with reading games and especially DVDs.

I swear 360 will never have to hold Halo 3 inside.

And Misty, don't apologize. You didn't even say anything mean or worth apologizing for.

Huh, so the X-box is the PS2 of the next generation. I gotta admit I didn't see that one coming.

This is why I regret having bought a 360. It's got the games, but damn what an unreliable system.

Are you sure there isn't something obstructing the tray from closing properly?

Oh, Misty, keep in mind that anything you downloaded gets linked to your console. If they end up just replacing your xbox, anything you bought can't be used offline on a different console, such as full versions of arcade games, themes, ect. (prevents people from just giving things away to their friends)

That's something you should have asked about before sending the box in, but if you get a new one in the mail you should call back and ask about it.

since i would think the warrentee was under microsoft i am sure they would be able to replace it and anything it had (themes and so on). i dont think youll have a problem with it at all providing they dont try to screw you on the repair time, actually solving the problem, or any other stupid thing they find to delay or create problems. didnt you just buy this not all that long ago?

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

I heard that they will, but you need to bring this up to them. When I had mine sent in, I had no idea that anything was linked to the system. They never told me. When I finally got the new xbox, I was offline wanting to play my games, and suddenly everything was nothing but Trials, and my theme wasn't showing up.

Not a chance, the 360 has a helluva lot higher defect rate than the PS2 did. It is commonly believed that the 360 defect rate is higher than 30% and is much more widespread than the PS2 defects ever were.

Thanks for the love, guys. I'm not bashing the 360--stuff like this happens. Unfortunately, it happened to me.

I'll make sure I do that. I took out the HDD prior to sending it in, but I'm not sure if that helped any.

Well, you're not supposed to send your HDD in to begin with, they should have said that.

The games you bought are still linked to your console, so all you're doing is just keeping the files, which need your console and your gamertag to show that they were purchased (actually, other gamertags can play and use bought items if the items are on the console they were purchased on). If you get a new console, you have to be online to use the stuff you bought since XBL knows that it was your gamertag that bought them.

I can understand that since it's for security reasons. I just called them to make sure I'll be getting MY 360 back instead of a replacement. I'm hoping this disc tray issue is something they can easily fix.
