My live in bf has about $5k from a settlement, but doesn't exactly know what to do with it. The interest rates of a savings account sucks, and CDs really aren't worth it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

A CD isn't a great deal but it isn't a bad way to go if you want to put some money away for a house or something. My wife and I have 10k in a CD since we know we will be moving within a year or two.
Especially if you don't have anything you want to do with it.
