Friday I am to give a speech at my graduation. Wednesday I have to submit it. Today I wanted to write it. Only, I'm so torn between how to approach it. So I wrote three. What should I go with?
Possible Speeches
1.
I stand up here now to read a speech I’d written last night at about 2 in the morning, but as I look out into the eyes of the graduates, I realize that something is wrong with this speech. It doesn’t convey the passion that I see. Some of us came here without any knowledge or experience and managed to make it through this intimidating program in the hopes that we could one day get a career in the industry that we ourselves love. And most of us will get excellent jobs because of it. Except for you, you and you. But even as you work the late shift, a proud manager at Blockbuster, you will wave your Bachelors in Game Development above the heads of your co-workers. And as the rest of the employees smoke behind the building together and talk behind your back, you’ll feel the power that only $100,000.00 can buy. So congratulations everyone. We’ve made it through the trials and tribulations of an accelerated program. We’ve endured these many months of work. We’ve prepared ourselves for the future. And now, it’s time we take hold of the future, and dry hump it into oblivion.
2.
I’m sorry everyone. I couldn’t think of anything inspirational to say. After surviving almost two years in a fast paced environment with labs and projects always bearing down on me, researching and implementing new concepts for class, and maintaining attendance despite long and sometimes odd hours, I have been drained of much of that creativity needed to write an exceptional speech. I just could spend the time to sit down and write one. I’d need a motivational quote like, “Graduation is not the end; it is the beginning,” by Orrin Hatch. And that’s only the beginning. Then I’d have to remind everyone of its obvious relevance, by pointing out the fact that we’ve still got our whole lives ahead of us to make something of ourselves. No. No, thank you. I’m just about to graduate, and I’ve got nothing on my mind but the bright future that I’m going to make for myself. I hope you guys do the same. I know each and every one of you is capable.
3.
When Full Sail called me and asked told me about this speech, they told me that I should speak about two things. First, I should speak about my personal experiences, about my time here, about me. The second thing they asked me to do was to relate it to everyone and send us on our way. One of these two I wasn’t so keen about. You see, I worked hard. I asked questions. In fact, for the first time in my life I studied. I’d like to think I’m pretty much better than everyone else in this class. But I’m not. If I thought I worked hard, most other people worked ten times harder. I spent countless hours studying before a test, where some people spent days. When I thought had done something impressive, I looked to my peers to see them doing things that blew my mind. That’s why I can’t stand here and wax egotistical while the rest of my class goes un-noticed. So please, let’s really appreciate what every single graduate has accomplished in our time here at Full Sail. Every person here today has proven themselves to be an “advanced achiever”. Congratulations.
Edit: Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Just need a broad audience.
