    Legend of Arlane

Hi! I think this is the place for this, althought maybe it could go in the workshop, but i'm making a game with RPG maker 3 ( first time making a game) and i was wondering if anyone wants to offer opinions for my story and events. At the moment, I have 3 main characters, a field, couple, of a towns, and havent' developed a good dungeon yet. My prologue is basically this: long ago, the goddess of fate destroyed the kingdom of Arlane. However, the three lesser gods of virtue opposed this and asked for it to be rebuilt. Their request was granted, so long as they allowed their souls to be imprisoned in this new world to protect it. So far, i think i'm gonna have some villain try to gain the power of the 3 gods for himself. Feedback?

So are you (the player) going to be playing as the villain then?

That wasn't my intention, but it is an interesting thought...

I say make a total crap game a couple of times (maybe submit them for the contest ) to get used to the system. Then make a serious game. Don't try making a great game your first time 'round.

I know it'll turn out crappy. But i wanna put some effort into it. Its actually the storyline from an unfinished story i wrote, so it isn't a lot of thought. I just don't understand everything i can do with RPG maker yet.

Truthfully speaking, your story is nothing special. The outline you gave is typical RPG fare with nothing that stands out. But, since this is your first effort, it's probably a good thing to keep your story cliche. It's a long road trying to make a game, and the first effort is the hardest. Keeping your story simple will make things easier on you.

It is okay to have a cliche story... for now. Heck, my first story was cliche, I think (I'll post it if you like), which was partly why I stopped working on it.

You'll actually see a lot a cliche plots in the world, from children's books (probably why cliches are still around) to early video games (as long as it played, it was good, at first). As long as the gamer enjoys the game, than the plot doesn't matter too much (but a good plot increases the chance someone will like the game).

I think it has potential. Balance of power between multiple deities is certainly interesting. Think about what peoples' roles are in the rebuilding and maintenance of Arlene. Think about what the characters' roles are. And think about how to make the gameplay worth playing.
