Despite Friday the 13ths being considered very unlucky days...I managed to do something that literally made my whole day.
I had just finished seeing "Black Snake Moan" at the dollar theatre with my aunt, and afterward, I wanted to go to mall to see if they had Mega Man 4 (GB version) at GameStop since I got my paycheck. Unforutnately, they didn't have it, so I ended up getting three other games (Tetris, Ducktales, and Legend of Zelda).
Before we left the mall, I figured I'd go check out the arcade to kill time while my parents ordered at the McDonalds across from me.
I changed a total of 8 dollar bills, the majority going to this game where you have to avoid negative numbers in order to reach the "win" level, thereby, winning a prize. I've played this game many a time, and whenever I get really close, I end up going right back to the bottom. The game is addictive as hell people. I was on my fourth dollar, and I had one more chance to win a prize. My goal was trying to land exactly on the "5" while it was spinning around, but the main problem was timing it right, so I wouldn't hit a negative number.
The luck was on my side. I landed on the 5, the win sign flashed, and I frantically looked around to see which prize I wanted. My options:
Game Boy Advance SP
One of two crappy Game Boy Advance Games
Cell Phone
Wii Games
Madden for PS@
Ipod (don't know the brand)
I had a strict time limit, and after figuring out how to select the prize, choosing the GBA, I waited as the 80 dollar device dropped to the prize compartment, and then...I was completely stoked.
The guy working at the arcade couldn't believe it either. He said he's been working there for 6 months and only saw 4 people, myself included, win at this game. After spending the rest of my 8 dollars (didn't win anything else), I still left the arcade with the same feeling of triumph that I feel at this precise minute.
I had been thinking about exchanging it so I can work my way toward a DS Lite...but then I realized that GameStop wouldn't even give me half as much as I wanted for this thing, and it's brand spanking new!
I'll probably never ever be able to do this again.
