    Pride...

I just got back from seeing "Pride" tonight (stars Terrence Howard, from Hustle and Flow, and Bernie Mac, from Mr. 3000).

It's basically a flick based upon the life of a man coaching a swim team, and it seems to follow the same inspiration pattern as that of "Invincilbe" (Mark Wahlberg). However, there's a little bit of everything in this flick: drama, action, and even some comedic performance. Overall, I'd say this is was a pretty decent flick, and I'd grade it a solid B. It's not exactly breaking any boundaries in the filming business, but the pair of Terrence Howard and Bernie really can draw in a sufficient crowd. Please see this movie, if it suits your interest.

I for one have long been interested in the shrewed world of competetive swimming, but does it join the esteemed world of classics such as Drumline, Stomp the Yard, or perhaps You Got Served?

this move strikes me as something like drumline, which was essentially a "HEY LOOK, BLACK PEOPLE CAN DO THIS TOO" movie.

Yeah...same here...and how are you not going to have comedic performances with Bernie Mac?

I have a theory that this movie is the result of a bet somewhere. Like one guy went I bet you won't make a movie about black swimmers.

Do people in the black community get annoyed that the only movies marketed to them are about usually boring competitions that get urbanized?

Why would they? Everybody knows black people love to dance and play basketball.

Now if it was something like the first all black team at the tradtionally all white watermelon eating contest maybe then.

I came THIS close to seeing it tonight. I was alone, I thought I'd catch a flick before going home, I was next in the ticket line and everything.

Then I came to my ****ing senses and decided to wait to rent it.

                    Oh my god... that's genius!

Let's get to work! I'll add the obligatory "You want respect, you gotta earn it!" line, you create the scene for the grand finale on ESPN with ten thousand people in the audience cheering on the underdog black team.

I know, I almost want to go see it, but I don't know if I can take a serious Adam Sandler AND a 9/11 movie. Throw in Don Cheadle and my Hotel Rowanda flashbacks and it's just too much.
