Increasing the popularity of our games

I've been thinking about something recently. Having my demo recently posted, I've been checking the game download area to see what its features are.

I was looking through the game vault on the main page. People on here hardly ever comment in the "discuss" sections under each RPG Maker 3 game.

Below is a list of the RPG Maker 3 games, downloads, and posts (by people other than the creators). It doesn't include the garbage contest entries.

    A Series Aside (211 views) - 1 post

    Centurion (804 views) - 2 posts

Duder and the Mage (87 views) - 0 posts

    Fatal Insanity (428 views) - 0 posts

    Forgotten Isle (531 views) - 1 post

    Hamano Miharu (re-update) (60 views) - ) 0 posts

    Hidden Valley (120 views) - 0 posts

Second to Last Fantasy XXVI (778 views) - 6 posts, one of which is from Feb 2007.

    Series 1: Destiny Beckons (276 views) - 0 posts

    Spirit Saga (414 views) - 2 posts

Land of Mystery (Updated) (199 views) - 0 posts

The One and Only Kuzuk! (253 views) - 0 posts

The Raiders of Lekunder (39 views) - 0 posts

Ursus Quest: Shadow of the Towers (78 views) - 1 post

Whispers in the Woods (1722 views! Wow!!) - 9 posts, including quite a nice unofficial review by Libra in Red

    -------------------------------------------------

It's interesting to note that the two out of the three games that have had the highest number of downloads have also had the mosts posts.

So, why don't we (those of us who've played a game made by someone else) go and post some comments?

I'm sure that many people who aren't members here just come to check out the latest games (without even setting foot in the forums).

I need to post some comments under a couple of games myself. There are three or four games that I have played, spoken with the game creators about, and posted in the game forums about. I've rarely posted in the "discuss" section in the game download area though.

    What do you guys think?

You bring up a really good point.

Perhaps the reason is because most creators have their own dedicated game forums, where a fair amount of discussion takes place?

Sorry you think this topic is stupid Ryner. I hope other people won't though.

The main point of this site is to spread the word about RPG Makers 1, 2, 3 and its games, right?

For people who don't come into the forums, seeing comments on the main page might be helpful. Who knows, more people might even become members as a result.

I have read and re-read it.
I guess I took that to be sarcastic where you were speaking as me.
            I apologize.
Which topic are you referring to?

Re: Increasing the popularity of our games

Recently Valkysas mentioned that we have over 10,000 unique visitors per day, and most of them don't go to the forums.

That reminded me of this thread.

Since 3/24/07 there have been a total of two posts made in the Discuss sections on the front page for the following games. It's interesting to note the correlation (not sure if there is one or not) between new posts and new views since then.

It could be that people just tend to download the first games they see on the list. I wonder what would happen with the number of views a month from now if everyone posted a little something in the Discuss section on the front page for every game that they've played.

Re: Increasing the popularity of our games

how about a revolving fetured game per visit. a bunch of premade reviews of games that is set to randomize upon someone coming to the site. that would give a lil bit of of an edge to some games. perhaps cut down the work to only make such a thing for popular and deamed good or noteworthy games?

toss some ideas out there and who knows what'll happen.

While not the same, but similar, Ixzion has random selection of games listed on the top of his site.

for a very short time before I re-did the site, I had a feature exactly like what Karr described.

people ONLY downloaded the games on that list, nothing else.

thats why we dont have it anymore.

Re: Increasing the popularity of our games

then i supose it is up to the game creators to plug their own games. that woods game for maker 3 has gotten good downloads due to his promotion i think it was said, so perhaps others should be selling their game like that. some of the games could use a bit more detailed descriptions and reviews are always good, but we have had alot of problems with reviews in the past.

You can already see a direct connection between my endorsement of Pagerron's game and an increase of posts in his game's forum.

I don't know if it would matter all that much in the long run but perhaps instead of providing a link to the submission topic we link it to the person's game forum?

Re: Increasing the popularity of our games

I know it's been a while since anybody has posted in this thread, but I think it is a really good idea. I know ever since I got my max drive I have been having trouble deciding what games to download. The discuss part is very limited and that is the main part I relied on to make a dicision.

I think if anyone who has played a game left a short post about what they thought the games might get more downloads. I'm going to be sure to leave something about any game I play. The same thing applies to the review part. Very few even have one in the main forum. If people knew what others think it would really help.

By the way I was wondering how do you leave a review? Games that don't have one already can't even be chosen. I have a few games I would love to give a review, but don't know how yet. If you do know please help me.
