That article doesn't mention that DVDs also have a shelf life, and that after 20 years the disks will start to deteriorate, forcing all of the DVD buyers to convert to new mediums or buy it all over again.

I agree completely, so what do you think the new medium will be?

If I had to guess I'd say something like SD cards or something along those lines.

        Everything eventually degrades.

        My personal guess? Flash storage.

Eventually all videos, games, etc will be digitally distributed only. With videos it'll probably only be a few years. All the necessary equipment and services are widely available they just have to wait for more people to get onboard. Games will take longer because the industry is much more dependent on the retail market and only has major advances with a generation change. At least one more generation of disc based systems.

I haven't used a VCR in over three years. VCRs are so '80s.

                  I miss the 80's.

                    Re: VCR's Paused Permanently?

I have some very fond memories of the old VCR days. My mom wouldn't let me watch the Simpsons when it first debuted, so I set the VCR to tape it and I'd just watch it later on. I was the only one that knew how to program the VCR, so nobody noticed.

But I don't really see the need for them anymore. I got rid of most of my VHS tapes last year.

Give it a few years and we'll be downloading all of our movies as the primary source.

I still use my VCR every day. It's how I watch the porn that I recorded off of rented DVDs back when I was on dialup and couldn't download it instead.

Wow they're just now stopping VHS support... I thought they did that a long time ago, at least they should of, I mean it's not like a dvd player isn't affordable and if you really wanted a VHS player you could find one.
