    A quick question...

If I quit my job June of 2006, and haven't had a job since, would I still get a W2 in the mail from them?

You should. I only had a job for a couple months summer of 05 and it was minmum wage so I barely earned anything but they still had to send me a W2. Same thing with my summer job in 2000.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for my W2 from Sonic.

I only worked there for 1 month in the summer of 06.

By law, any place of employment MUST send out a W2 by January 31st (today). That's mailed by today, though.

(If you earned enough money that is...the threshold IS pretty low, though...a couple hundred or so...)

I probably only made like $700 from them all together.

          Does that count?

If you made 600 dollars or more, at least in Michigan?, you have to claim taxes on it or whatever.

If you had any taxed wages you should get a W-2.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the threshold is, but one job I worked I hit it, I guess. A couple years back I did a freelance gig for one day for a company, and when I didn't get a W2 I called them up and was told that I didn't earn enough from them to need one (we're talking I only earned like $60 from the gig).

It's entirely possible that they talked me into committing tax fraud, though.

I thought it was they had to provide you a W2 but it was up to you whether you'd file taxes below the earning limit. I don't know if that's right though.

I would imagine that even if you only worked a week last year they'd still send you a W2.

Well the way I see it if you payed taxes last year, even if it was for 1 day, failure of the company to send you a W-2 keeps you from getting a refund, which is, against the law I'm assuming, if you file online I'm pretty sure you can use your last paystub, since all you need is the value of the taxes taken out.

This is correct, but you'll need to know your employer's info, like the EIN.

                          Re: A quck question...

The earnings threshold to pay taxes was something I passed that year (I didn't just work that one day, obviously). I did file, FYI.

This is also may just be because I was an independant contracter for purposes of the day I worked. Who knows.

It took 13 posts for somebody to care about that.
