First comic done!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/Great_Dragon/pavcomic1.jpg

Sorry for the artifacting, I wound up saving it as a jpeg. And it was kinda rushed somewhat. Anyway, I won't necessarily be doing every comic like this, and they all won't be as long ('cause dang, that took way longer than expected). Dunno how often I'll do this, either. And, I'm sure there are other things I need to mention, but I'm still in that rush.

Ah heck, might as well try. Um, just let me know what you guys want to look like. (Or if you're more daring :D , show me a drawing or something of what you want to look like.)

Um, basically like my avatar. A small white unicorn with yellow tufts. ^^

Is there a larger image available?

Split Infinity
04-08-2005, 10:00 PM
I could increase it's size if you could find somewhere to host it for me.

Draygone
04-08-2005, 10:04 PM
Nah, unless there's a larger pic somewhere, simply making the image bigger would make it seem pixellated. I could try drawing it and then you can tell me how close I am. (Er, aside from myself not being that great of an artist.)

Split Infinity
04-08-2005, 10:08 PM
well, it's ok if it's not close. I don't mind being drawn badly at all =p

Awesome. I would pay $11,000 to see that.

If I'm ever featured, have me be a slightly out of shape guy with a thick beard and messy black hair, and I wear a blue jumpsuit(If you've seen Mystery Science Theater, the jumpsuit is like Mike's, look at my sig for reference).

I just find it ironic that Staffmaster would claim exclusive rights to anything at all, considering his name is synonymous with "Take other peoples ideas".

No, see, YOU own the rights to everyone for scripts and writing and what not, and I own the rights to the comics. (with gloomy)

Staffy, I hate to be a critic or whatever, but you're just not very good at anything much at all. And thats not really the bad part. If you were all, "Hey, heres some stuff I did, its not very good but whatever." I wouldn't even mind looking at your stuff.
But the fact that you are so big-headed about it just makes me (and probably everyone else) annoyed to no end. Come on man.

And Gloomy + Comic = YEAH RIGHT. No offense to G-man, but he can't make a long-term comic for squat. Even he knows that.

Eh, maybe I should just draw some of you guys the way I might picture you.

"I must do research."

So far, I've got signed up...
bigbg459 (no graphic yet, but maybe I could draw him as an anime-ish character)
Split Infinity (a white unicorn)
Pandagon (no graphic yet, maybe some guy that always fiddles with his collar)
Maijo (no graphic yet)
Riotsword (bearded guy with a bit of a belly, wearing a blue jumpsuit)

I'll have to draw up these characters sometime (er, after confirmation from those in need of graphics).

04-09-2005, 11:44 AM
Usually these things don't work because:

1. Everyone wants you to draw them in some bizarre form/way that you don't care about.

2. People lose interest.

3. You lose interest.

4. There are better projects to work on.

This is just what I've seen with previous attempts.

Draygone
04-09-2005, 11:47 AM
yeah, well, even if I lose interest, at least I'll have a bit of fun in the meantime.:) I suppose I could just make up stuff like what's done at the Mag, but I wouldn't have any idea what sort of stuff to make happen.

Big Rick Cook

Why not just edit the first post, and tell people that?

The CWS has exclusive rights to having more than one topic.

Not really, but the big guys don't take too kindly to multi-topic ideas. I feel pretty sure that Valk doesn't even like that the CWS has two topics, and Mora definitely axed the third that Staffmaster tried to start, so it may or may not be a good idea to ask first.

InfinityDragon

K, cool. Now I can actually start on it.:)

Gonna have to think of a name, still. At first I was thinking Pavvies, but that's too similar to Magpies. RPG Maker Pavilionites is too simple. Also thought of RPG Made Pavilion, Anime Maker Pavilion, and Strange Day at the Pav. I suck at names.

Ive actually though about doing this before. Making a comic staring members from this board and whatnot.

But then I forgot that we have so many damn members, and having to include them all would be a real pain in the ass. You'd have to use all of them too, because it just wouldnt be the pavilion without all of them.

Valkysas
04-10-2005, 11:19 AM
yes. the first strip has to include all 189 current members.

yes.

no.

Draygone
04-10-2005, 01:10 PM
Maybe "A Normal Day at the Pav". Or maybe that's too long. But I'm thinking something along those lines.

Yeah, I know there are a ton of members here, and coming up with characters for each and every one of them would be a pain. But I'll deal with that as I go along.

Anyway, making the first comic is taking a lot longer than I thought. I'm only halfway through with the drawing. Should've started sooner. I'm kinda considering skipping the coloring for this first one, since I haven't had much experience with coloring yet. Maybe for a smaller strip.

Draygone
04-11-2005, 02:19 AM
Yeah, I must admit, it seemed funnier before I created it. I think I had more luck with the random stupidity in Something Stupid IX. Maybe I should try something else. Something not as restricted to what's happening at the Pav. ....Maybe a Something Stupid IX comic. The game was more about the random stupidity than the gameplay anyway.

InfinityDragon

I called "Magpies" that because it was about the mag and it's an injoke about the longs standing love of all things PIE arround the boards. It works because it is also a bird related to a crow that likes to make the sounds of other things (Aka "mockingbirds"). Magpies is parody so it works on a deeper level as well.

honestly it just hit me that that would be a neat name. A name that just fits perfectly.

I realy can't help you with a name for the Pav comic. I tried to think of one when I started my comic and i came up blank.
I can help you get pointedin the right direction though. Almost all comic titles have double meanings, and eather hint at what/who the comic is about or names it out right. Take "Fox Trot" for example. It is about the Fox family, but it is also a passionate (and complicated) dance, the implication being that family life can be fun, challenging, and oftten enfuriating to get right.

"Get Fuzzy" also follows this formula. It is about pets. Pets are furry. This title suggests that one should become one with your pets, However, if you change the inflection slightly the "get" part changes in meaning from "to become" to "to retreive", or more literaly "to inflict harm upon" Pets can make you angey, but watching other people's foibles with them is hillarious. (or so I'm told, I personaly find Get Fuzzy to be almost the lamest peice of crap ever laid eyes on. On par with fred basset on the ol' staffy intrest meter)

Finaly lets look at Penny Arcade. this is one of the golden ones. A cheep strip about gaming. Need I say more? No.

Another way to name comics is to create a pun or play on words. Some of the best Manga artists use this method. Full Metal Alchemist is an example of this. It is a play on the title of the book Full Metal Jacket, which is realy slang for an unspent bullet caseing.

Yet ANOTHER way to name a comic is to just think of a common word that has a powerful sound to it or a humorus sound, actutaly any sound so long as it and the comics' "tones" aggree. "Crankshaft" is an example of this. as is "Shoe"

Finaly, just naming it after what is about is always good. Doonesbury, Garfeild, Cathy, and Calvin & Hobbes fall into this catagory.

For the reccord, people at the mag call them selves "Magonians"

highwind
04-11-2005, 11:30 AM
I thought it was good, Draygone.

I'd certainly like to see more.

The only panel that was lacking was the final one which should ultimately be your most important one.

Keep that in mind.

RPGD
04-11-2005, 11:43 AM
Art should probably be done by someone else, but I thought it was pretty damn funny... Well, specifically, the part in which Paul was blowing crap up. You might want to focus a bit on making it more versatile.

Big Rick Cook
04-11-2005, 11:47 AM
Staffmaster, you narrowed the field of how to name comics to... pretty much anything.

Draygone
04-11-2005, 12:23 PM
Last panel, huh? Eh, I was trying to make it a secondary joke. It was referring to not only the downtime and the broken feature, but also how the PC RPGMs were pirated. I guess it was too much secondary. Maybe if I added some debri...debree...debry... stuff from the fight lying around.

Versatile? You mean doing more than just a news-program delie? I'll be doing some other stuff besides that (as long as somebody like the comic, I'll try working on it). Like if that remembering of the consoles deal was a bit more recent, I'd probably do something like have a few pavilionites remembering the Genesis, SNES, and Intellivision, with a fourth pavilionite holding a locked box saying something like "NES Memories - Do Not Open". Dunno if I'll really do that "Pavilion Recap" deal every week.

I'll admit I'm a terrible artist. But I like to draw, and this comic was going to be my chance to do a lot of it (hopefully improving my skill in the process). I'll admit, I could've done better on the coloring, maybe add some shading. Though I still haven't had much practice with either. ...Whoa, I just noticed the artifacting gave my character a bit of a scaley effect. Too bad I probably couldn't do that on my own.

Infinity Dragon, Ryner, Marcman, and Glueme, what would you like your characters to look like? :wink

RPGD
04-11-2005, 05:42 PM
Nope, what I mean is to make content that appeals to a wide enough audience, as we've people whom have many different tastes on this board (I don't know what to classify Paul's tastes as), not to mention a few who would wish this comic never came to being and will have nothing to do with it out of sheer enmity for one reason or another.

Draygone
04-11-2005, 05:50 PM

Just come up with funny situations. Then cast pavilionites to fit the situation. it will LOOK like it is about the Pav by default because the people involoved will act in a natural and beliveable manner.

AND PLEASE. You guys honestly think that I'm TELLING him that that is how he should name his comic!? THOSE WERE SUGGESTIONS AND OBSERVATIONS!!!!

I don't care what he names his bloody comic, he could name it "YOUR MOM" for all I care. So shut. The ****. Up.

Draygone
04-12-2005, 11:31 AM
I would make stuff up, but in most instances I wouldn't know who would be best in such situations. I'm afraid I just don't usually pay too much attention to the overall "personality" of anyone's posts. If I base the strips off of actual events, I might still be a little off, but I'd be close enough since it already happened. I suppose I could try making something up just once, though, if only to see exactly how close I'd be.

Okay, I've come up with something hopefully interesting. I'll create it after this next comic.

Oh, and Infinity D and Ryner, not to be pushy, but I still need to know if you want to be in it. I could come up with your characters on my own if need be.

Glueme, I'm thinking you could be a red-headed guy with a Chainsawgirl T-shirt.

This is great. It's not freaking in-your-face poochie the dog style, it's not the it's-funny-because-it-makes-no-sense kind of humor, and it's not the "it's offensive and disgusting, so clearly it must be hilarious" kind of humor. It's just cool and collected, and I like it.

Also, i like how on my screen, the guy who gets explosively banned looks like he's got a hitler moustache, although I think he might just be yelling.

I've never seen one before. I made it up on the spot. The joke was that I gave you three specific things about me. I'm a person, my avatar is Kiwi from Shining Force II, and I'm a pretty big guy. Then I told you to use those as a basic for drawing me as a duck with three wings and a fish tail. The two could in no logical way be connected, and that was the joke.

Anyway, just use a pretty big guy with the Kiwi Helmet, and I'll be happy. :kiwi

you peeps should write one of these. It'd be a big help do Dray I'm sure

Character traits: The Staffmaster (aka "Infinity Dragon"). Prefers to be called Staffy. Staffy is a liberal, and usualy means well, belying his sometimes grumpy attitude. Highly defensive verbaly when his reputation is attacked, becoming aggressive if attacks continue. Likes cude, visual, quirky, and/or dry humor he is quick to make light of a situation if he thinks it is appropriate. Staffy thinks authority is in place to be questioned, and has no qualms about doing so, even if it is debtromental to himself. Tends to be highly critcal of others at times, but only points out flaws in others in hopes that they can improve. However his meathods of critique can be a tad ovely harsh at times, and usualy delivered with a complete lack of tackt. Blunt and sardonic, Staffy says what's on his mind no matter how outragious it might sound first, and while most don't like to admitt it, people can see the naked logic in his thoughts. Always willing to help someone in need, and eager to please others. Strong willed, Staffy will fight for what he belives in voraciously. At times he is passive and then suddenly become manic; his way of doing things can rub some people the wrong way, while others secretly cheer him on.
