Can not breathing regularly lead to gradual brain damage?

I have a feeling that the fact that people have pointed out IRL that I don't breathe enough (noticable in cold weather) and the fact that I am becoming dumber by the day have something to do with each other.

Anyone ever heard any answers along the lines of the question in this topic's title?

I wouldn't think so..... or I would have suffered alot of brain damage.

I am basing this solely on the fact that an oxygen-deprived brain can be severly or irreversably damaged, such as in a drowning victim or the like.

This takes time, though. More time than a person can willingly hold their breath, I believe. Unless you're holding your breath to the point you nearly pass out every hour, I have a feeling you're not damaging yourself.

A certain period of time without oxygen can cause brain damage. As long as you are getting oxygen to your brain, I wouldn't think there would be a problem.

Maybe you just have a low metabolism? But I'm highly doubtful slow breathing could cause brain damage.

Well until the other day I would have said you couldn't die from drinking too much water so who knows.

But water's different. It can cause your cells to pop. Lack of oxygen would just make you tired, that's why you yawn: to take in oxygen.

I thought yawning was a psychosocial phenomenon leftover from when humans hunted as packs so that everyone would sleep simultaneously and be collectively ready for a morning hunt.

I think it's one of those things that nobody really knows. Like why we cry. Or what the appendix was for. Or why Tracy Morgon keeps getting work.

But yawns have been tested, that's why you yawn when you're tired: Oxygen helps to wake you up.

You should train your brain, because it's like a muscle!
                        ...and that's why.

If you notice you're becoming dumber by the day it's probably because you're tired, possibly because of the breathing irregularity, but until you start typing like a Fatal Insanity character, you're probably not brain damaged.
