Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection

While Solid Snake may be a master of stealth, there's very little chance of his next proper excursion, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PlayStation 3, making it onto shelves unnoticed. Despite that, Konami is stoking eager gamers' interest in the game with today's announcement of Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for the PlayStation 2.

The Essential Collection will compile the original PlayStation edition of Metal Gear Solid along with Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, both "director's cut" versions of the PS2 games. The compilation will sell for $29.99, and will feature commemorative packaging designed by series artist Yoji Shinkawa.

Konami did not announce a release date for the game, but online retailer GameStop is expecting it to ship in mid-March.

Nothing new but well worth it for me considering I missed out on both Substance and Subsistence, and my MGS1 is almost unplayable.

$30 is kind of cheap though, I might have to pick it up.

If I didn't own all of those already, I would so be buying this. Hell, I may just buy it anyway. :3

But the info I've seen on the collection never says Subsistence is in there.

I wish they would throw in the remake of MGS1, but still, $30 for all those games is a nice deal.

You've been looking at stupid info then.

More importantly, what about Integral/VR Missions?

That wasn't an MGS game so much as a collection of added VR materials. Subsistence and Substance have added stuff, yes, but they still include the game itself.

Unless that was the point you were trying to make...

This is pretty much designed for me. I haven't played any of the MGS games yet, but at $30 I would have to be an ******* not to pick them up.

Yeah, I just meant since they have the enhanced version of 2 & 3 why not the enhanced version of 1 (Integral) or since the actual Integral didn't get released stateside include VR Missions with MGS. But that would be a lame compromise because I mostly wanted to play that minigame where you sneak up on the female characters to take pictures of them. It's like a misogynistic version of Pokemon Snap.

I don't know why, but I liked the mystery minigames especially the final one where you solved the mystery after standing around for 10 minutes.

It would be pretty cool if they include MGS VR missions. Bummer that none of us are that lucky.
