The only real reason I'd get it would be to mess around and see how it compares to the other games in terms of coding :P Also the battles looked kind of cool now that they're not DQ style. I'm sure it has been done already in 2, but I've never tried.
ACBSs have been done in RPGM2, to varying success.

RPGM3 might be worth it, so long as you're aware that it's more limiting than both RPGM1 and 2. And while the battle system looks cool, it's actually rather slow. Here's the best video I have of RPGM3's battle system in action.

Up to four party members (members in back row can't use physical attacks), and up to 4 enemies, depending on enemy size.

Oh, and RPGM3 has an annoyingly low hit ratio (1-in-5 chance of missing).

      Well, now I know.
Well, they're made by the same company, and do mostly the same thing. the AR Max just lets you do cheat codes in addition to the save file stuff. (I believe the AR Max with the save file function is called "Evo"?)

Evo was just some sort of variant if I recall.

Here's what I bought, thinking it was the Max Drive of Lore...

Looks like the Code Junkies website is still active!

One can buy brand new "max drives" there still!

            Here's a link to the site; http://us.codejunkies.com/Departments/PS2.aspx

And it seems the EVO edition just had a 64 MB Flash drive, as opposed to the 16 MB one in the standard version (but any flash drive will work!). Here's the evo edition page if anyone cares : http://us.codejunkies.com/Products/P..._EF000323.aspx

Thanks for the reply Draygone. I've made an ACBS for a game I worked on before and that worked pretty well. I've even heard that Nash found a way to run normal scripts as an action. *Forgot exactly how to word it* and that's really peaked my interest. That would allow for a lot more to be done with an ACBS.

I'll check out the vid for RPGM 3, although the hit ratio that you mentioned sounds like it could be REALLY annoying.

It's not as bad as it sounds, so long as you give the player a team of three or four, or if you have a decent spellcaster to make up for it.

I want to make an "Escape the Room" type Mini-Game. I'm assuming it would be easier in 3, but i'm not familiar with 2. Care to shed any light on my idea?

I find everything easier to make (the way I want it) on 2.

But that is not the consensus around here. Almost everyone says 2 is harder!

Do you have any experience with any sort of computer programming?

3 is simpler, but more limited. 2 can be made to do dang near anything you want.

"escape the room" is too general a description - what do you want as obstacles? I'm sure such a game could be made in either - but the end products would be very different in both.

                        MOO!

Read the tutorial for setting up simple events in the VFX Editor Guide I made! (I think it's a door tutorial) (it's one of the prologues)

It is written for the Absolute beginner to make sure they have a foundation to build on for vfx work.

EDIT: And if you have the prima guide, do the "game in an afternoon" tutorial!! It helps too.
