    I forgot all about this:

Apparently, Animal Dash got poorly reviewed due to game-crashing bugs.

I peeked around the 3 section, but nothing like that jumped out and bit me on my (entirely too big) nose!
Lausen's "Animal Dash", Pagerron's "Secret Agent X", my "Hell's Dining Room", and Obright's "Pavilion Iron Chef" are all full-fledged minigames submitted as games. The first three all have some sort of action element.

Minigames exist in other RM3 games as well, such as Obright's "Tree of Life", Perversion's "A Series Aside", or my "Perversion & Paper".

Although RM3 doesn't lend itself as naturally to making minigames as 2 does, you can still make some really nice ones, and it's not all that hard to do.

Thanks for the pointers to those games

I think I'll have a bit of a play around this weekend.

I need a break from trying to debug games I made years ago and forget what I did to make them in the first place!

            Definitely get both then.

If only to play other people's games on 2, and make your own (PLUS play other people's games!) on 3.

The RPGMs I have seen around here are like $20-$50 used.

Congrats, that's an insanely good deal.

Like Rodak said, one of the biggest perks is being able to play other peoples' games on 2, because it takes a huge amount of patience to make one yourself.

This is true. My biggest problem overall with 2 is that the commands are mapped out in a way that is very counter-intuitive. There is a drop-down menu, but it only exists in the easiest editing difficulty where you can't do much more than change the names of things and tinker around with some dungeon layouts. So to do anything, you've got to use all the buttons on the controller and in ways that sometimes feel awkward. The results can be worth it though, once you know how to do something with the system, there is a lot you can do with it.

Though as Rodak said, even if you pick 2 up just to play the games, that's fine.

I greatly miss RPGM 2. I might spend a bit out of the paycheck to get a used PS2 and RPGM 2 off of Ebay :P Btw I've never played 3, is it even worth buying to a person who's already adept at 1 and 2?

The only real reason I'd get it would be to mess around and see how it compares to the other games in terms of coding :P Also the battles looked kind of cool now that they're not DQ style. I'm sure it has been done already in 2, but I've never tried.

The full name is "Action Replay Max" and it's marketed as a cheat system for games. But it also works for transferring game saves to a usb drive (and then to other computers, the web, etc.).

Mine was lost over the years and I replaced it for about $30 - couldn't find a cheaper one shipping from the USA (since these things are Regional, it's best to buy them locally!).

No, AR Max and Max Drive are two totally separate products. Both will allow you to upload or download PS2 games, however.

                                Wow.

Something else I never knew or heard mentioned before!

I even linked to ebay istings for AR Max in my "Hardware" thread, called it a Max Drive, and nobody said anything...

                                Well, now I know.
