They significantly lowered the difficulty of synthing since beta, so its alot easier to synth stuff without stuff being destroyed. so that you can make that stuff without it failing half the time and losing all of your materials.

Well sure it is, casual friendly that is. You can pop in on a daily basis, ram through a couple guildleves, log off, and still feel pretty good about yourself and your progress.

What it lacks right now is content aside from what's unlocked at Rank 10, 20, 30, etc., and something better than the current Market Wards. Everyone's shouting for an Auction House or bazaar search feature, and the game's only been out 4 days.

Worth the purchase? Sure why not. It's like every other MMO at start. Major flaws that need fixing, bugs here and there, but overall it's not a terrible experience. I'm having fun soloing, and even crafting. I'm nearly done with my second cowl, gonna sell that **** for mega money, and I'm only rank 11 weaver.

The way the economy is right now, it's easy for crafters to take advantage of new players. Players who focus on crafting will find their efforts rewarded pretty quickly. Players who focus only on War/Magic will have a harder time as it stands currently. With the economy focused on crafting new gear, and no way to search for that gear you want easily, you're looking at being stuck with your level 1 weapon for quite a while until you luck out on some blow joe who's got it in his bazaar. Not only that, but the longer you wear your gear the more it wears down. It's a very bleak and punishing game for War/Magic only. SE is pushing hard for people to craft, and I've seen many a player begrudgingly set aside his polearm to try his hand at blacksmithing.

If you have faith that SE will use your dollars to make the game into something incredible, then go for it. If you'd rather wait till later, like say the PS3 release, when the game is more polished, I don't blame you.
          ...and that's why.

If this is any indicator, i've only been pulling myself away from the game to do necessary things, like eat, sleep, make myself clean, stuff like that.

Love it, although i really wish recipes didnt require so many shards. Seriously, 8 lightning shards on one of the most basic crafting recipies to make hempen yarn... i think i preferred the crafting in FFXI a little more in the sense that crystals did not seem to be so difficult to get.

Re: The Official Final Fantasy XIV Topic

I've done a few large groups. It's waaay different and more rapid then XI, and may not even be worth it for melee.

You only get exp from a dead mob if you've attempted to attack it. Skill points are awarded randomly for abilities used while in combat.

This makes it fairly easy for any mage class to cast AoE heals during a battle and gain 1500-2000 skill points per levequest. However, if the party has too many melee, the mob goes down fairly quickly (even on 5star difficulty). Melee don't get in as many hits, and therefore don't win as much exp. Heal spells don't draw that much aggro either (and even if they did, you're spamming heal spells. Chance of death is small). So it seems that for the moment, it's better to be a mage class casting AoE spells in large 5+ person parties (max is 14 people). You only need 2-4 melee to keep the target engaged. Any extra (like me, I was an archer in a group of 8) will have a tough time getting their share of exp.

It's especially difficult because everyone goes gung ho against the enemies, just spamming their attacks. Battle Regimins are too slow to enact, and trying to set one up during a fight wastes time. Most enemies go down in less than a minute. A battle regimen takes a 5 second pause between actions. Good for opening a battle but you need to be really organized and understand what you're doing.

This is all at a Rank 10 camp though. I hope that in later levels battles require more thought and strategy. Plus SE is likely to note how overpowered the Mage classes are. I'm sure we'll see some nerfing in the coming updates.

Edit: Ah, apparently it's an exploit, and people have risen to ridiculous levels without surplus affecting them using this technique:

how it works is, get bunch of mages.

Then do aoe cures/buffs, and you will gain skill everytime it procs on someone, then at the end it will give you exp per person and end up like

                6 members in pt:

You gain 45 amount of conjurery skill <- mob
You gain 567 amount of conjurery skill <- proc on member 1 (you)
You gain 258 amount of conjurery skill <- proc on member 2
You gain 390 amount of conjurery skill <- proc on member 3
You gain 437 amount of conjurery skill <- proc on member 4
You gain 254 amount of conjurery skill <- proc on member 5
You gain 332 amount of conjurery skill <- proc on member 6

do it for like 5-10 mins (tranquiliy thing)

Total of 2283 exp there for a 6 man pt per mob per 5-10 mins

Think about 15 man pt XD be nuts.

damn, thats nuts, they better get that exploit fixed fast.

I didnt get to play much yesterday, but Den you were right about those caves near Bentbranch, i got a bunch of lightning shards and of course more earth shards that i would ever want just grinding in there for materials and shards.

I've got all the time i want to play this week, so i plan on gaining some massive physical levels and getting my pug rank up a bit too.

Edit: and square is atleast giving people a way out without getting their accounts banned or suspended.

It is still shoddy business. Who is smarter, the people that let this slip, or the people that are smart enough to take advantage of it? Lets put it this way, what if a store had a buy 1 get 1 free coupon, but you could print that coupon as much as you want online and get 20 free items. Lets say you take those coupons and use them, and weeks later the company comes knocking on your door saying "You are going to jail if you do not return those items". In my opinion, the people that found and took advantage of the bug are the smart people, and SE is just ****** that they missed such a big bug.

Most MMOs that have something like this happen, they either fix it and leave it be, or roll the whole server back. They don't find individuals to try and set an example. What is the big deal if a handful of people are further along than everyone else? What, they might realize that SE implemented the exp cap to prevent people from getting to high level and realizing that they dont have any end game content?

They couldn't leave it be because it's game-breaking. This exploit is easy to do, it's not a clever trick like say FFXI's SMN burn parties. Left as is, we would've been seeing rank 50 mages running about gettin' rich off of all the high level drops while honest players get burned in their wake.

They also couldn't punish everyone by rolling every server back. That'd just make everyone more angry. If your character gets deleted for it, you're only losing a week. I'd imagine the only people getting banned here would be RMT, or downright a-holes.

What, they might realize that SE implemented the exp cap to prevent people from getting to high level and realizing that they dont have any end game content?
As if everyone who is playing right now doesn't already know this. Come the **** on. This describes every single MMORPG in existence at launch day.
