Re: The Official Final Fantasy XIV Topic

    Wow.

The game's only been out a week with Square fixing the exploit right away, and people still find reason to cry.

And there's really no point in complaining about lack of content. Square will add it over time, and it's not like you'd be maxing out and having nothing to do in a couple of weeks with XIV's system anyway.

Yeah but wasn't that the same complaint we all had about PSU? :B

Re: The Official Final Fantasy XIV Topic

PSU had content on the disc already that they casually waited to "patch" for us. If I remember correctly.

That and the game was overall zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Like how they changed attacking into a button mashing fest instead of PSO's skillful timing combos. Or how the only way to grind was to repeat X scenario of killing monsters over and over.

Yeah, yeah, you could definitely say the same about XIV right now, but this one has crafting and gathering minigames, beautiful graphics, and an actual story. There's content to be had here.

I'm not against patching the exploit, I'm against targeting the people who used it.

I don't support hacking because that's using an outside force to manipulate something in your favor.

I agree, there is an exploit to gain easy credits in Reach, but Bungie said they won't ban poeple for using something that's in the actual game.

I think that's the fault of the developers, and there should be no shame on poeple that use an exploit to save some hours.

Can you guys be defending a bigger crock of ****?

I mean, this isnt a situation where people are redoing a single quest over and over because its rewards are higher than other quests or redoing a certain instance or something. This is literally cheating the game and knowing you are doing it without reporting it.

Its not so much a matter of punishing the people that found the exploit and reported it, but its punishing the people that found the exploit and kept using it and didnt report it even though they knew it was game breaking.

I dont know a single MMO that wouldnt do this if someone was abusing an exploit.

Isn't this an exploit all the way back from FFT? Did they learn nothing?!

And also the same as hitting your own party members in FFII.

Jeroak, don't be such a stick in the mud.

There should not be any repercussions for those exploiting without hacking the game. Because then it's not the fault of the user.

That'd be like Square-Enix programming a game with a massive loophole and then expecting people to use the "honor system" to keep from overpowering themselves and punishing people retroactively for taking advantage of the exploit.

Oh, wait, that's exactly what's happening.

Imagine if Square-Enix hunted down everyone who did the AP gain trick in FFT and took away their disc. Or everyone that went crazy exploiting the Junction system in FFVIII. Or everyone that powerleveled early in FFIX with the level 50 dragons and Quina's Lv. 5 Death skill.

Except that none of those games were paired with subscription services, so the exploits didn't cut into profits.

Any company offering the same pay-to-play service is going to come down hard on any subscriber that's found a way to circumvent the parcelling out of content and effectively cut the cost of experiencing the full game.

I will say it again, this has happened in other MMOs and they don't throw the ban hammer around. They either end up fixing it and leaving it at that, or rolling the whole server back (depending on the amount of people that used it).

No one was using outside sources to get the extra levels, they used a "tactic" in the game to take advantage of a system in place. SE messed up, yet now they want to punish the players that were smart enough to take advantage of it.

It amazes me the amount of fanboyism in this thread alone

D, your argument is sound and I agree with you, but:

2.1 Cheating and Botting. You may not create or use any cheats, bots, automation software, hacks, mods or any other unauthorized software designed to modify the Game and gameplay. In addition, you may not take advantage of game system bugs and exploits during gameplay.
It's in the terms of service, plain as day. And:

The Game is a carefully controlled environment designed to provide the maximum level of enjoyment for all players. In order to preserve an enjoyable experience for all users, and to protect the intellectual property rights of SQUARE ENIX, the activities identified in this Section 2 (“License Limitations”) are strictly prohibited and violate the conditions or limitations on your license to use the Game. Therefore, any use of the Game in violation of such restrictions exceeds the scope of the License granted to you and constitutes infringement of your license, and is grounds for immediate revocation of your license. Use of the Game in excess of these provisions, or use at all after your license is revoked (including loading the Game into your computer’s RAM), infringes SQUARE ENIX’s copyrights to the Game.

Violating these License Limitations may result in the suspension or permanent banning of your account, or such other lesser measures described in Section 3 which SQUARE ENIX may take in its sole discretion, or an action for copyright infringement or other legal claims, all of which are reserved. You agree that offering or providing banned services to other players of the Game constitutes improper interference with SQUARE ENIX’s contracts with such players, and SQUARE ENIX reserves the right to take formal legal action against you if you do so, without warning.
It's how they're running things, and this is what players agree to. If it's too much to ask for, don't play. But I'm sure that none of you are planning on doing so anyway, seeing as how vocal you are about it.

                                ...and that's why.
