Action replay max does not read on my PS2...

Help!! I just bought Action Replay max and a seperate USB flash drive, but for some reason my PS2 does not like blue-backed CDs. It tells me to insert a Playstation or PS2 game disc. Are all Action Replay discs blue-backed? I had also bought a codebreaker thinking this may work. It did...I'm able to transfer files without a hitch. Problem is, Codebreaker won't recognize .max files, which apparently all the games posted on this site are. So is there anything I can do? I might go to a buddy's house tonight and see if his PS2 works with the Action Replay Max...in which case, I'm gonna have to transfer all the downloads to a memory card from the Action Replay one at a time, and after each one, transfer it to the USB flash drive using Codebreaker. This seem like a long tedious process in order to be able to play games posted here. The main thing, though, is being able to post my game online. If this Action Replay does not work on my friend's PS2, my interest level in RPGMaker just dropped to almost zero. There's no point in completing the game if no one is going to be able to play it, except my friends, who are not really interested. Also, is there a way to take the .max tag and convert it to a .cpb (I think), which is what Codebreaker uses without changing it manually, which corrupts the file? This might help too. I'm just really frustrated right now. Anyone else know what I'm going through??? Thanks for reading this far...I know that was a lot.

I just bought this (the version including a usb drive) and I'm weary of opening it.

Perversion, I assume you have an old model PS2, and that's what's causing the error screen? It sounds like you have this trouble with most blue discs? Could you verify that? You might still have a chance, if someone on the site has both devices, they could do the conversions for you. The Pav has a tool for conversion but it doesn't seem to include the codebreaker format.

I have a slim model PS2 and it's entirely possible that the software can not be read by them. I know that the X-port software couldn't. Also, nowhere on the outside of the package or website are the PC requirements given. Can someone detail them to me?
Oh my god! You are so beautiful.
I had no idea how beautiful you were.

the PC requirement is a USB port. thats it. you dont even need to use the PC software. just drag and drop files onto the thing like it was any other removable storage drive.

        Thanks, Valk. Also:

A: In most cases your disc is not likely to be faulty. Due to the way that the disc is encrypted the AR MAX may occasionally require hitting reset a few times before loading. It is not a problem with your console. If this problem persists, please contact Datel Support.

Q: When I try to load Action Replay MAX I get a message that says “Disc Read Error” or "Please insert a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disc"?
A: Try switching on the console with the disc already inserted and if it displays this message, press the reset button a few times. You could also try loading the disc with the PS2 standing vertically, which can sometimes help an older console to read the disc if its laser is weakening. Also make sure there are no scratches on the disc, as this may cause the disc to not load. If you still have no success, try your Action Replay MAX disc on another PS2 console. If it works on another console then the disc is fine, it is your PS2 that is causing it not to load. If your Action Replay MAX disc does not work on another console, then you may have a faulty disc and should contact Datel support.
So maybe you can keep up that reseting process or just email them a strongly worded letter.

Here is a tip that worked for me.

Place the mini-cd in the tray and close it. Then quickly and carefully, turn the playstation 2 on it's side (vertically).

It should be able to play it then.

I just went to their support site today, and on the automated FAQs it asked if you were having trouble loading on a slimline PS2, hit 1. I hit 1, and it said that this disc is not compatible with the slimline PS2s. I'm guessing that this means that any slimline PS2 that tries to play this disc will not work....but correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I'm not sure if my PS2 is an older model or not...I got it used, and have no other blue CDs...so...*shrug* dunno.

Is x-port the same as .max files?

                X-port is something like .xpt.

                  X-Port - .xps
Max Drive/Action Replay MAX EVO - .max
I forgot what .xmem is used with though.

What is this x-port? I've never seen one in a video game store. All I've seen is Action Replay Max.

It's an older file transfer device similar to the Max Drive. It has been discontinued for quite a while. It's just as well, since with it you had to connect your PS2 directly to your PC, which is inconvenient if your PS2 and TV happen to be nowhere near your PC. IMO Max Drive is better by far.

Theres a trick that might help you if your ps2 is having trouble reading cd's. use scotch tape around the inner circle, stick it on all 4 sides on the label side of the disk to form a square with the tape. this changes the balance of the cd, causing it to spin faster or something. THis worked for me for about 2 years, but now it won't work anymore. So sadly, since Rpgm2 is a cd, I won't be switching to it anytime soon.

anyway, my ps2 plays dvd's like butter.

I found something that might help you.

                            It explains it better.
I hope this helps if not I meant well.
grr, Gamefaqs won't allow a link directly into their site, so I removed it. Its under consoles/ps2/Disc read error faq.

You can usually make the crappy discs work when you turn the PS2 vertically. It takes like, 10 tries to make it work for me.
