    Balanceing Issues

Okay, I've been working on this game of mine for alittle while now. I would be alot farther if I could figure out how to balance everything. My problem is that the monsters are either too weak, or too strong. I can't figure it out. The enemies never seem to have the strength to do any significant damage, some not at all. But the first boss can kill you in one hit.

I may go the lazy man's way and adopt Dear Brave Heart's "no leveling" approach. That way I can find out which enemies are the right strength for the beginning, then work my way from there, only haveing to worry about new equipment.

But I'm loathe to use anything from that game, seeing as the best part of the entire game was the Sample area.

Try cutting the enemies' base stats to 1/2 or 1/3 of what it is now, and adjust their levels in the monster party section. Also adjust the experience up or down if it's too high or low. Then at this point, if they're too easy to hit, too hard to hit, do too much damage or not enough, etc... adjust the respective stat up or down a point or two.

I can help you!...How much help do you want?

      here are the basics...

      Damage is calculated like this:

(attackers) Attack Power minus (defenders) Defense.

Example: Hero has 30 AP. Monster has 20 DF. Damage would be about 10.

sounds easy, except that when your hero levels up, they will do more damage. this must be balanced.

Suggestion: use smaller numbers for attack and defense. maybe, less than 10.
a wizard should get maybe 5 AT. and a warrior maybe 10. Remember that attack is determined by the # you set, times the lvl. So at lvl 10, this wizard will have 50 AT. and this Warrior will have 100.

*I could go on with lots more data if you want it, let me know...
*You are welcome to use any of the stat system from my game Forgotten Isle if you want.
*I would be happy to even balance you game for you if you like.

A bit of advice: Don't have your heros start at level 1. Make them start at, say, level four, and you can balance a bit better. Works for me

First of all, set low base stats. Then, have an auto event that adds to everyone's stats, so that they have high stats, but they grow little by little. Also, keep monster stats low, and just raise them by level in the monster party menu.

Hmm.... Setting them low and levelling them in the editor sounds good. Its just that its so tedious haveing to go through the first dungeon a hundred times and still have to tweak it. I'll try some of your ideas.

if you want to be real precise on how much u damage want ur guys to do just make everyones def and mdef 0

the only enemies you dont have to balence are the creatures you make that blow themselves up at the start of the battle

Just put a save point nearby, and save from there. Adjust your starting position in story settings to put your party near the save point. Use playtest mode. Monsters too easy or hard? Just use the start button and choose force victory, then exit back to the editor, adjust
whatever stats or levels are necessary, and check it again. Saves having to go through the
whole dungeon... you can balance everything a lot faster this way.

you should always balence out enemies before going on with creating your game so you wont screw up later on but its not always necessary (depends on how well you judge your characters statsand the monsters stats)

as said before, starting ur char. at lv. one is a bad idea, even past RPGs have had the main character start at lv 7 or something.(FF VII) Say your char has 20 to att, and health, and 3 to mdef and def per level up, start them at lv10-15 if you want it to be really simple, then test test test.
