Re: Effect question, and some other random ?'s

I suggest giving RPG Maker XP a try. Nothing holds you back when you are using it...
Nothing holds you back as much. There is no default world map (not even a point-and-click type) in RMXP, but it is easily possible to create a world map tileset.

Yes, and that's the point i'm trying to get across...

In RPG Maker 3... You don't like the Thief model? Too bad, your stuck with it.

In RPG Maker XP... You don't like the Thief model? Break out the Adobe Photoshop and edit/make your own.

        Paint works, too.

RPG Maker 3 is a RPG Maker for those that want to make a game quickly, and don't mind it being terribly similar to everyone else's. It seems either Runtime is "new", or the plans laid out for this maker were rushed. A lot of the features lack efficiency and flexibility even at the simpler levels. People say RPG Maker 2 could've used some streamlining, but at least RPG Maker 2 made use of all its elements and made things convenient for those who wanted it.

I'd say rent it, and if you want to join the rest of the collection of created games, go ahead and re-rent it(you'll get your $50 worth if you're quick in learning the system and create a game in 5 weeks). As for a rental site, try gamefly.com.

It's a lot easier to edit pallets and add effects with Photoshop though.

Well yeah. I don't have Photoshop, though. I'd like to get it, but it's a little too expensive.

                Try Gale Graphics.

It's pretty nice... Great for editing pallets.
