yea, its not a standard rpg by along shot. games have had all kinds of level caps and design but for the norm, level 50 seams to be the average level ive finished rpgs at, and the cap is generally 99. rpg maker should then in theory achieve the same values but since people probably dont want to level grind or waste time playing a battle system they probably have had lots of experience with, id just make the leveling painless and limited.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

That's about right. On average, most console RPGs max at 99, but 50 is about the highest needed to actually beat the game.

I don't know about RPG Maker 2 & 3, but the first game has an experience plateau at about level 20, at which point the amount of experience needed to advance a level stops increasing. So basically, unless you have a different leveling system in your game, level 20 is more or less the max for the first game.

        Re: What is coding

I just ran the numbers in the "Experience Table" sticky thread, and there's an experience plateau (where each further level requires the same exact amount of experience to obtain) at Level 43.

So if you're planning on having your player level past 43 (assuming you don't try any cute stat-changing tricks), you are probably going to throw off the balance of your game, and likely encourage grinding.

I find it stupid that they stop scaling the experience levels, but that's what they do. Let it serve as a warning: you need to keep things minimalist. Keep the levels down. 20-30 sounds good for most games. Keep things minimalist, but intense.

          Re: What is coding

Hah, I never once said you would get to level 99 in my game. That in fact is why I said it would be fine to set the skill to be learned at level 99 and only be able to learn it through an event. To be honest I haven't touched any monsters other then what is in the demo and boss monsters. I'll worry about that when the time comes. Got to lay the story out. As I said before "Dear Brave Heart" is good for getting the basics down, but still use some coding I find to be memory stealing.

            Re: What is coding

God, what a dumbass I am....I responded with my initial post referencing the topic Postulate Man brought up (grinding to lvl 99), without realizing what you were initially saying, Lausen.

D'oh!!! Yeah, it's pretty damn standard when designing a player character for RPGM3 to make any skill you learn in any way other than by leveling at level 99 to learn. Basically, this amounts to the player never being able to learn it in the course of normal gameplay....the level 99 is basically just a placeholder for a skill that's not available unless you gain it through an event of some sort.

Sorry I misconstrued your meaning, Lausen (well, moreso sorry for reading Postulate Man's post and your response to him rather than reading your initial, "Put the skill at level 99 to save room" post). Technically, it doesn't save room for anything, and technically you could put it at level 94, but, yeah....99 seems pretty standard.

Yeah no one can tell how how to code, since theres thousands of ways to(or in RM3's regard....hundreds) Do what wavelength suggested and look around, also looking through the coding in Dear Brave Heart also helps.
We did. Great big Apples. We played the fun "spelling" game. We played the exciting "addition" game. And there was one guy who managed to find the "hangman" game somewhere in the network, and actually had FUN while the rest of us were taking "tests". This was supposed to be a class on computers, not a "regular class, just on a computer".

              What a gyp.

I wanted to take accounting, too, but they made me play trombone instead.

Um, what's "grinding"? I am married, and a machinist by trade, and have a teenage stepson, so I know of at least 4 uses of "grind":
                grinding wheel kind
                grinding peppercorns kind
                skateboard kind
                makin' babies kind

What're y'all talkin' 'bout? (How's that for abuse of the apostrophe?)

                  Re: What is coding

Grinding is doing basically the same thing over and over (in this case, killing weakling monsters in Random Encounters) in a game to accumulate something--most often, gold or experience. It has a negative connotation, as it usually gets boring after a while, and it's usually "required" in order to stay competitive or move on.

Love is not something that can be bought it starts small like a seed and as two loving souls cherish the bond they share with one another only then can it blossom into a rose which in itself is as beautiful as love.

I dont know, Ive never checked the coding in DBH, I just offered it as a suggestion, I played RM1 for ages so when I got 3 it was pretty easy to figure out.

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!
