    How do start learning?

Since I am taking the time to learn more about Rpg Maker 2 I was wondering how do I start? Do I ask questions or do I try random stuff out and see what happens because I tried the random thing and its pretty boring and it dosn't really work so some tips would help a lot. Also Reality Bites how did you get so good at this?! Now if you've had Rpg Maker 2 for a long time then I think I get it but learning this dosn't just come to you did you have help or something?

Your best idea is to probably just play around with everything. And start a short project game for fun, just to help you learn everything in the process.

Play Fuma a bit too, and just take a look through a scripts just to get an idea of how everything works. And there is such a back log of information here, you can search the database here and you'll probably find any answers you are looking for.

      I agree with Biggie.

I've been messing around with RPG Maker 2 a bit also, and I found it fun to create a simple map and have that as my starting point for the beginning party. Then, I just walk around it a bit and see how the map works with its ups and downs. After that I like messing around with creating dungeons and checking out the VFX editor.

Also, make sure you check here.

The next two are from old threads, so it's better not to post in those two, or you will be considered a "necroer" of old posts. But they are still good reads.

If you really want to get it you can, but everything can be found out with the help function in the game.

            Re: How do start learning?

I got the game in 2003, and started off by editing the text of what people say in Preset Town, and renamed the game, developer, changed the font, and changed the font color. Then I edited models to replicate people I knew, and character I liked. After this, I copied and pasted scripts in preset town and screwed around with them to see what they did, and would copy lines and such from the events if it did something I knew I wanted to happen in a different script. I took the default characters and changed their models to fit the current project I was working on. All the while, I clenched the manual tightly, looking for help. Then I started to get a basic handle on the dungeon editor and map editor, and after getting a basic understanding of flags and even placement I tinkered with features I wanted (Character Customization, a crude cutsom battle system).
After this, I found out about Script branches, variables, and ways to edit the camera, status effects, items, monsters, and party members. Then I went on Gamespot, used the FAQs and also dissected Fuma for how to script certain things. I then started to edit off of Fuma instead of the Preset Beginner's File, and was getting many design ideas.
I happened upon this very website in search of help, and I have got to see a lot of cool things happen on RPG Maker 2 from this site's help, and I suddenly got a understanding on scripts, and now I am going off to make my own game after six years of tinkering with the software! I hope it takes you less time, and I wish you luck!
