DLC or a realistic facsimile thereof...

I'm trying to figure out a way to allow for DLC for an RPGM2 game I've been throwing around in my head. I cannot figure out a legitimate way to allow for this (then again, I don't really know a lot about the software, either). I'm guessing I would have to make the original game, password protect it, and down the line release the same game with the new content but only allow access to it through a password or something that would be given in the original game file. This is of course assuming that if you have a save file for the original game, the same save file can be loaded up in the "DLC" version of the game.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's the trend of the future...if you have a current-gen system, you've seen it. DLC=downloadable content. Halo's map packs and Rock Band's downloadable songs are DLC.

Problem is that you can't use the same save file in a new game. The save file is based on the time the game was created. You can try to match the time the original file was saved but you need to save right at the same second so it's pretty hard to do.

A better option is to create a password system that includes important information about the party (who's in the party, their levels, what important items they have), so that this information can be passed off to the new game.

Really, all games made on RPG Maker 2 are DLC for the game. That's the way the RPG Maker series works.

            Well, I'm aware of THAT.....

When I'm referring to DLC, I mean in the sense of having the original game that you created, and then occasionally releasing add-ons to it, as in the "hurricane packs" for Ninja Gaiden or as in new songs for Rock Band....in that sense of the meaning of DLC. For right now, I do not want to get specific in terms of what exactly I want to accomplish by using this system...I've already publicized WAY too many game ideas, and have not fully followed through on them.

I have a feeling that within the next few weeks, once I'm completely settled into my new job title, and I make an effort to take my meds, I'll be able to focus more fully on creating another RPGM3/RPGM2 game. Right now, though, my creativity is scattershot and unfocused; hence all the long rant-y posts and "stories." Getting a clear mind and a sense of focus will enable me to begin creating with the Makers again, in earnest.
