    Seraphim

well, i figure i might as well be a little more active around here, so why not post some info on my latest project? it's called Seraphim and will be released on RPGMXP. unfortunately, i'm not nearly as talented with the software as those at rmxp.org, but i think i'm doing pretty well seeing as how i'm on my own.

    anyway, the details:

Satan, King of Hell, is in the mood for a bloody war. he has decided to take over the kingdom of Heaven for his own. His mission is to capture Heaven and dethrone the queen, Lady Seraphim. obviously, Seraphim does not want her kingdom to be taken by the King of Hell, so she sends her Knights of Heaven to the Overworld in order to stop some of the coming attacks.

you are a boy named Logan and are wandering around town one day when you meet Melkior, a self-proclaimed Knight of Heaven. he is hesitant about his new quest and asks if you'll assist him in finding the other Knights. you agree after some discussion of the situation, and the quest begins.

as you journey through Overworld you'll meet a variety of characters, some part of the Angelic Army, others assassins who attempt to kill the party, and still others who wish to tag along for other reasons. the majority of the characters will only remain in the party for a short time until their problems are solved, but others will remain in the party for long periods of time, allowing for development.

there will hopefully be a variety of activities to engage in (fishing, for example) as well as some custom features. the battle system has been redesigned to a side-view turn-based system, the message boxes display text one letter at a time (like the console games) instead of all at once, there are character portraits during important dialogues, and hopefully more as i become more aquainted with RGSS.

    some screens:

NOTE: all images depict a work in progress and are subject to change at any time.

i also have short character bios, if anyone's interested.

so, yeah, my project. feedback, comments, questions, etc...

Seraphim, the highest choir of angels. Satan was in this choir. It sounds like you knew this, is what I think true?

Looks really cool. I like the character models. This is proof that I need to obtain xp. So far it is looking good though so keep going. I have a definate interest in this game.

Looks promising enough. The battle screen looks like it could use some work, but other than that, not bad.

            Re: Seraphim

            thanks for the compliments.

@ Cloud: actually, satan being involved with heaven before being banished to the underworld will be an important part of the story.

@ Draygone: i too feel that the battle screen is missing something. i do plan on eventually making custom battlebacks using the RTP, but if you or anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to let me know.

            again, thanks for the comments.

                practice...
it's the only way you'll get better at something. if you just started then don't worry. you can't expect to create a masterpiece the minute you download the software. i've had xp since october or november and i'm still not that good yet. i do suggest looking through marcus's mapping tutorial in the xp help forum, though, as it's very well done and extremely helpful. there's another tutorial at rmxp.org called demystifying the game process, which is also a great guide for beginners.

anyway, back on topic...i've just taken a few more screens of the game, featuring two overworld maps, a shop for buying customization supplies (for weapon and armor customization later), and a few skills in the menu. nothing special, but worth sharing anyway.

a bit of the first overworld map...contains the first two towns, the first dungeon, and a couple of secrets...

                the alchemy materials shop

some skills...hopefully i'll have a multitude of skills/abilities to learn

a mountain trail that eventually leads to the city of the angelicus.

                enjoy.

                  Very impressive.

My problems with the battle pic were that the selection arrow appears to block the enemy that it's supposedly highlighting, and that there is a lot of empty space. I suppose the latter can't be helped too much without making completely custom (and larger) sprites, but maybe creating a custom background would help. Perhaps you could draw up a regular battlefield-like map, take a screenshot of it, and edit it and import it as a battle background.
