I'm really having a hard time

Hello, i am a real newbie at rpg making. I just got the Rpg maker 3 for playstation. My question is this? I am using a sample field for my rpg. I constructed a town but whenever i go to the layout editor and place it, when i go to check it out, it's on a big hill, almost like a mesa, with no road or entrance for me to walk into town? How can i place my town on flat ground? I hope this makes sense. I'm an idiot at stuff like this but I would love to get better and create a game. Thanks for your help!

There are two menus in the field maker. One is for texture, trees, water, lava.

The other is elevation. You need to go into the second menu, and lower the land where your town is on. It is in the manual, on how to do that.

      Hello VictorHugo,
Welcome to the Pavilion. Yes, this happened to me when I first got RPG Maker 3 also. In layout mode, note that you can adjust the height of the town graphic. Just make the town lower or higher using the L2 and R2 buttons. Check page 21 of the manual. That should help. When you are in preview mode in the field editor, you will not be able to go into the town from the field, but when you test play your game you can.
Hope this helps. good luck. and again welcome. Hope you like it here at the Pavilion.

hi. thanks for the responses! However it still seems not to be working. I can't seem to get any menus for or buttons to work for the elevations...The only thing that changes is when i move the house around...the vertical and horizontal numbers change...i am so frustrated....been trying to do this for 8 hours now. arrrrghhhhhh....I'm as dense as a rock when it comes to this!

Select your town building, choose the "move" command and press the buttons designated(I can't remember the exact ones, I thionk they're L1/R1) at the bottom of the screen when you press select to make the button key show up, to lower/raise their elevation. The towns, even if you lower them are still kind of unapproachable though.

hello, thank you for all your input....I've managed to put hills next to the town so that i can actually see it. I was wondering though...do all the towns look as though they are on top of a mesa? My towns are all on a hilltop with sides almost like cliffs....they look completely isolated. is that normal?

              Sadly, yes.

This is a longstanding complaint about this game.

After lowering towns as much as possible with the height adjustment you can place the towns on the edge of land so they can sink lower and match the ground evenly.

I'll post an image later if you like... The stuff is all at the other 'puter.

A harder way, but one that allows for even placment in the middle of maps, is to lower it as much as possible, then actually go and raise the land in the map editor.

I got some great partially buried pyramids this way.

              Good Luck with it.

              Peace.

In the layout editor when you select to move the town, it's L2 and R2 to adjust the height. I set it to -5.00. With that setting, very little of the hill the town is on is visible, depending on how even the terrain is the town is sitting on. When I first started building a game, I too wondered why the town or dungeon was on a huge mound, but figured it out pretty quickly. L1 and R1 adjust the direction of the entrance, as well.

Yeah, the town/castle icons are certainly odd. The castle ones especially, because you've essentially got a tall but skinny castle with almost no features on it. I know it's supposed to be a castle, but it certainly could stand to be comparable in size to the town/dungeon icons.
