Tetris (RPGM2) Screenshots and mpg File

I created these for my review of Jugem's TETRIS recreation in a "Review Contest" at another site... But I may as well put them here too, so more people will see them.

    Here is the Title Screen:

And here is a link to an mpg file. It's a temporary link, so if it expires and you want it renewed, post here or contact me elsehow!

And another "Well Done!" to Jugem for this work.

    Peace.

So does it actually play like tetris? That's really impressive.

Yeah this game is great. Jugem held a contest before to see who could get the highest score, and whoever did got to get the password or something. I havn't seen who won because I didn't follow it but whoever did is lucky.

            It plays great!

            Almost indistinguishable from the original.

I had a request to refresh the above link, so check it out!

Here is the address again if you don't feel like scrolling all the way up the page:

            By the by...

It was I who won the contest (and you should see what I did to this game once I got my hands on the password!) (I've asked for permission from Jugem to share, but will not do so without his OK) (still no answer).

            Peace.

He's even got the tetris music!!! Seriously, this is the greatest thing I've seen out of any RPG Maker in a long time. Incredible work.

Anyway, thanks for all the kind comments. And sorry for not getting back to you sooner Rodak. Didn't get your pm until now. But as I said to you in the reply, you have my permission to share it. I'm curious to see how you've massacred it.

                    EDIT:

I'm considering making the password available for anyone who wants it. Maybe others could also use it as a learning tool... Is there any interest in this?

Might as well just post it then. I always love peaking at other ppl's scripting. Us good programmers always have unique ways of doing things and wouldn't hurt to share. Same goes for you if ya ever wanna look at some of my stuff.

Me, I love that game. I think I played it for about two hours just yesterday. I spent about two hours trying to get it back on my memory card using the replay max stuff so I put a total of about four hours in just yesterday.

                          OK, you asked for it...

Expect to see Tetriscide this week sometime.

Here's what I did to the poor game (It's a copy and paste from the Private Message I sent Jugem so the "You" is him):

                          I have committed Tetriscide!!!

This may be a nice tie - in with the Password Debate thread.

I don't know what you may have thought I'd do with your game once given the password, but I think you may want to know regardless.

The only way I could see what was happening was to make modifications and see what happens (kind of like learning RPGM2 in general).

                          I started with the sounds.

I tracked every script that made noises and inserted a menu at the start that lets you choose Default Sounds or Silly Sounds. Silly Sounds opens a menu with which lets you choose from a list of sound sets (Weird, Wet, Wild, Wacky, Whacky, Wonderful, Wandom, and Wegular (your sounds)). It started with just one choice, but it offers 8 in a multiple choice branch, so...

Weird is self explanatory. So are Wet, Wacky, and Wegular. Whacky is weapon and fight sounds, Wild is Animal Sounds, and Wonderful is things like "Cursor" set at pitch -12 (pretty, echoey, plingy things). Wandom randomly selects a sound from any of the sets for each noise so they all mix together. This only selects from the appropriate sets so you won't get the "game over" sound for a TETRIS, just one of the seven different sounds set for that moment. It's very interesting.

While testing them I decided I'd add another menu to the pause button that lets the player change sound sets in mid-game. It was for testing purposes, but why get rid of it?

If you want to see what I have done, I'll send you the file. If you want to pretend you never saw this, I'll understand too.

Don't worry, I won't share this with anyone unless you say it's OK (I may want to share it with Bigfoot since he has the password too and when I asked him (in a PM) what he did with it, he said he looked at the scripts, put his thumb in his mouth, and cried himself to sleep) (and it may prove worthy of a more public distribution) (But that's your decision) (I Like Parenthesis) [Brackets too] {And these things are just Wonderful!}.

I respect your work and would not do anything with it of which you do not approve. At least not publicly.

Privately however... the Graphics are next!

Thanks again for taking my suggestion about using the Password as a prize. I really am learning a few things by doing this, it's just that I can't simply look at the scripts and learn anything. I have to use them actively to get an understanding of what's going on.

                          Call it a Learning Disability.

I hope this does not make you want to shoot me (again).

Besides... You Started It! You and your Sheep Sounds at the end! I'm innocent I tells ya! Innocent!!

                          Peace.

The password debate thread I mentioned is on another site, but I may just start one here... it made for an interesting debate.

I just want to fine tune a few sounds for maximum silliness and then I'll upload it.

I shall also inquire about leaving the password disabled.

I sorted the database so all noisy scripts are at the bottom and easy to find should anyone care to expand on this concept.

I have more plans for modifying this game involving an upgrade to the high score save that would allow for three or four high scores with names you enter so you can compete with friends.

My plans for the graphics shall remain secret until I get more familiar with what I am doing and am sure I can make it work.

                          Peace.

                          MOO!

Ok, the password is: Up Triangle Up Left Down Triangle Left
Enjoy if you can take the chaos.

As for you leaving the password disabled Rodak, you might as well. After reading through the password debate threads and thinking about it, I realized there's not really much point in continuing to keep it password protected. What's someone going to do? Steal the code and make, er, another Tetris game? Plus, real effort would be needed to take the code to turn it into a different type of puzzle game. But it could be useful to see how certain smaller aspects are accomplished and then used for other games.

There are some things here that I plan to take with me to another genre of play on RPGM2. Something that will make Tetris seem like child's play. Another 2D game. But that's a bit down the road, whenever I find some time for that.
