I'm a little leery of sharing my ideas with peeps like this because anyone could easily rip them off but oh well. I won't give all the details (I still haven't thought them all out yet either), just the basic idea. You can rate it if you like and give me your feedback.
I thought about having a story in a post apocalyptic setting but I realized that if everything were already doomed what would there be to save right? So I decided to have my story in more along the lines of an "on the brink of destruction" setting.
The introduction begins in the typical town setting with you the hero as a child living with his family. One day your family goes for a walk in the woods adjecent to the town. You stumble across a strange weed that you've never encountered before. Your father comes in contact with the weed, falls ill, and dies (in a day or two). In a matter of days several people become hospitalized and word is that more of these weeds are appearing in the forest. When it becomes known that weeds are the cause of the deaths, people start trying to torch the weeds but the weeds are unharmed. Eventually the government burns down the forest in hopes that a higher temperature inferno will destroy the weeds. Of course as you guessed the weeds are unharmed and the entire forest is destroyed. By this time there are hundreds of these weeds and no one knows where they came from. After every desperate attempt to destroy the weeds the town is evacuated. This is where the intro ends.
The story picks up where you are grown (15 years later) and you are an inspector (of the "Toxic Farm" as it is dubbed) in a large city and the Toxic Farm has spread throughout a large portion of the continent. No one has descovered how to destroy the weeds but antidotes have been descovered for certain kinds of weeds (in the 15 years the weeds evolved into hundreds of different kinds of plants).
You go to collect a sample (your normal work routine since you never know when a new kind of plant will emerge) in the Toxic Farm with your crew and you run into a beast that apparantly resides in the Toxic Farm. The beast is hostile and scatches you as well as kills your entire crew, only you manage to escape. You make it to the hospital in time and miraculously come to a full recovery. However no one believes you about the beast (they think you're dillusionary from coming into contact with a weed). You decide that this beast may be the clue to discovering a cure to the most deadly of the weeds (the original) but you also decide that you ought not to return to the forest just yet. You go to the other big city to seek help from the world's leading scientist (who discovered the known antidotes).
The scientist believes you about the creature but will need support from the govt. to conduct a thourough research project so you bring a petition before the govt. which fails because they need evidence. The scientist reluctantly grants you his research team to try to take down the beast yourself. You do just that successfully and return to the city with the beast. The govt. then approves of a research project.
That night you wake up to a horrible pain as though you are mutating. You soon discover that your strength has increased exponentially. In the morning you go to the lab to find out that a group of theives stole creature's body. Why would anyone want to steal the creature's body?

People will begin to discover all kinds of strange bizzarre facts about these mysterious weeds. I guess I spilled more details than I set out to. Anyway I'll continue with this presentation of the story when I work more of it out.
