    Re: A Proposition

Don't be afraid to ask questions on this board. I would imagine we'll see lots of newbies to the series.

My own recommendation to all you new guys is to play through the sample game, then load the data and look through it if you are wondering how to do certain things. It isn't really that hard once you get used to it.

I also recommend trying to start small, like a game that consists of just talking to a couple of people, maybe getting into a couple of fights, perhaps even wandering around a dungeon with some random encounters. Nothing spectacular, probably little more than a confidence builder and a way to get your hands a little dirty.

To all those who don't have max drives; don't let that stop you. Heck, even I don't have a max drive yet. I plan on buying one after RPG3 comes out, just before the deadline.

Since both birthday and christmas are at the end of the year I will not have a chance at getting a Max Drive for a while but anyway cool idea I would do it if I had the money for a Max Drive

Well, now that we all have had a chance to mess around with RPG3, do you think the deadline should be changed? I've got 14% done, and as I have school, business is slow. However, the October 29th deadline is after MEA, so I'll have a decent chunk of gaming goodness.

I don't believe anything good will come out of trying to meet a deadline unless you have a reasonable amount of demo to post up. I'd rather try to make my game as great as possible before I did any sort of release.

That being said, if I had a MAC Drive or anything of the sort to post my RPG up, I could post a demo, though it wouldn't really do my game justice, so I'm going to wait until I feel the time is right.

I agree. I only would post my demo if it would actually show my game as being good and an interest to players. However, if I do have a pretty decent demo by the deadline (which I am not sure when it is now), I will go ahead and post it. I do not have a MAX drive yet, tho.

I'm fine with the 29th, and progress on my game is going considerably slower than I anticipated (Mostly because of work).

The whole point of the event is to have some material up on the site, regardless of the degree of completion, to show what we have all learned up to that point. Plus, if you aren't comfortable with what you have by then, there's really not going to be a penalty for not submitting a demo/game.

Well, there's still the other half of it. How many of us are going to actually download and play other peoples data? I mean, we'll all want to work on our own games. Chances are that only those of us who upload stuff are those capable of downloading others, so I guess that anyone who uploads something has an obligation to look at some other peoples stuff.
That's only if we were shooting for positive feedback though. If that is not the intention of this exercise than please erase this from your

I tell you what. If I get a MAc Drive by then, I'll see about putting a demo up.

might want to look for a Max Drive instead.

Yeah, it might be hard to find something that doesn't exist.
