    Re: Let's Play (With Draygone)

    Yay!

I meant to say "The time to take charge had to come sometime." not "some time". Oops. There were a few typos this time, to be sure.

Speaking of typos...I forgot to fix the names of the Archaeology Tools, the Saint Medal, AND the Brazier!

Also, Althea gave you a special message, just like quite a few people gave you special messages, but you didn't continue talking to her like you did with the others. It's ok though, you can still chat with her later if you want to.

And yes, there is a way to achieve a perfect score by what order you do things in. Actually there are multiple ways of doing it. There needed to be, or else you couldn't have a perfect score as any of the possible adults but one. Since you either become adult A or adult B by virtue of which quest path you do first, it was important to build in multiple ways to play the system. ;-)

You seemed a little distracted during this episode, which actually made it extremely entertaining to watch. Most of those asides were very fun to listen to.

It's also cool how you have so many different options for what you could do next.

It would be cool to see a "side save" going on the Thief quest at some point. I could just see it now: "Ep 43: 'What If?' II - It Takes a Thief (Ursus Quest: Tree of Life)"

I'm thinking that once the game is over, I'll try being a thief out for the finale. Also, totally stealing that episode title. =P

By the way, no Ursus Quest next week, on account of a quickie project that occurred between me, Ixzion, Lantis, Kajakfaucon, Myoky, Duelpro, Insultobot, Navane, and Fayorei. The project had some audio issues, but I guarentee it'll be VERY entertaining (hint: your typos do not compare, Obright).

And then we hit the final episode. The audio quality gets good, and the game gets plain bad. So bad that someone felt the video was worth giving a thumbs down. Sucks to be them.

                    Re: Let's Play (With Draygone)

Oh man, that game looks bad. Typos, strange capitalization and lack thereof, ditto for punctuation, randomly throwing bits of various IPs together. Yeah, doesn't look promising at all.

I think he was just using a bunch of preset data there for most of what I saw except for those Demona things. The class looks like it's preset data, and the gear the character was wearing looks like it's mostly preset. The spells and techs look like preset too, Sword Dance I know is one of the preset skills. That castle looks like it's from the preset data as well, because it looked pretty familiar. That Slime/Imp/Goblin encounter also looks like one of the preset enemy formations. As for the battle screen in the dungeon, the way it works is that the user can set a texture to be used in each battle, but I don't think he bothered with that since it was using the default texture for the dungeon blocks.

tl;dr: It was done as lazy as possible.

Also, you can tell the creator is a fan of Final Fantasy and Crono Trigger, because The World is Square. Heh.

At least he had a good idea with the save anywhere function, but why it copied the batle transition first is beyond me. All he had to do was create a save script and assign it to the button.

Won't be returning to "Tree of Life" for a couple weeks. I'm kinda sick, can't talk all that well, so that makes recording an impossibility. Plus next weekend, I am heading to Tennessee to hang out with the RPG Maker Magazine folks for "Magcon". Videos of the event will be found here: http://www.youtube.com/user/rpgmmag
If I can get it ready in time, I might show off the beginnings of my contest game while I'm there.

                          Feel better, Dray.

By the way, I've been wondering, how much time a week do you spend LP'ing all these games? Also, since it's clear you put a lot of effort into the editing and such, how long does it take you on average to make one 30-minute episode?

                            Re: Let's Play (With Draygone)

I'll have to time myself at some point. It's kinda hard to say, because I don't actually record in half-hour segments. I usually record an entire session at once, and depending on how long the recording is, I'll split it into multiple episodes. There are exceptions, like the Dragon Knight 2 let's play I just did, but otherwise what seems like two episodes originally started out as one.

Take, for example, the "Master Sculptor" session. Together, the episode time is about 40 minutes. But the original recording was 58 minutes, recorded as one video. Upon throwing the video into the editor, the first thing I do is scan the audio waveform of my commentary for large bouts of silence, and cut those out. If the resulting video is over 36 minutes, the video gets cut into multiple episodes. I'll watch through the recording, all 40 minutes, adding in those text messages and death counts where necessary, and along the way I'll make note of good spots to split the video. After I finish watching through it, I'll record a closure to the first half of the session and an opening to the second half. Coming up with episode titles takes about 15 minutes, and add 15 minutes for the extra editing I do. After that, I render the videos, which takes around 10 minutes each. After rendering, I'll check the beginning, middle, and end of the resulting video, and pray that I didn't forget something. If I did, gotta make a fix and render it again. This happens more often than I'd like. Finally, I upload it to Youtube. My upload time matches the length of the video, so a 20-minute video will take 20 minutes to upload.

So, using the "Master Sculptor" session, my guess is that recording, editing, and uploading altogether takes a little over two hours per episode. But like I said, I'll have to actually time myself sometime.

When I had the chance to choose, I'm glad I picked you to do my LP, Dray. Occasionally you were disappointed by your assumptions about the game, but I think anybody playing a game for the first time has preconceived ideas about it, to a certain extent. You always made up for any oversight, you always plan out the episodes well, and I appreciate the time and effort that you have taken to present my game accurately, fairly, and completely. I know it wasn't always easy without a guide!
