In RPG Maker 1, the ASCII screen pops up and freezes your game with a guy yelling "ASCII SOFT!"

        This is entirely true.

There are a LOT of grammatical mistakes and extra/omitted words in the RM2 Help Screens. Probably so many that it's not worth mentioning any here.

Ive never seen that...the only ascii screen Ive ever seen is at the beginning, and Ive never heard anything...

When the game loads, a dude on a horse shows up once in a blue moon (I've only seen it twice) and says ASCII, which sounds like he's saying ass-cheese, and it freezes the game.

                  ...

Ive started RPGM1 literally thousands of times, and Ive never seen it...nor have I ever heard anyone else mention it...Im having a hard time believing both of you.

So much for a serious thread.

                    It's true. I'm not joking.

                    Your thread remains serious.

Well in 3 there's that thing where item descriptions get cut off in-game because the maximum number of characters in the editor doesn't match the maximum number that can be displayed. That one still irks me.

It's 100% true. I have seen it once in eight years.

                        it's rare.

most people will never, ever see the thing. first time I ever saw it was when I put RPGM1 in my PS3. never showed up on the PS1 or PS2, but I remember seeing confused posts about it all the way back in 2000 the very week the game was released.

ValhallaRPG even got a screenshot of it and turned it into a monster sprite.
