Hmm, I've been thinking about checking that game out.

you can be creative and pull this off. you have a max character number but you dont even need your ash char in the party. maybe have 15 types of monster types and use those as the base for your part.
I've already settled on 12 different monster character, and I'm going to use the 4 different palette swaps for each monster, so that's 48 total monsters involved in the actual system. There's also arena foes, and several other types of enemies that can't be captured but are still dangerous, and have reasons to be fought.

i recommend you do check it out since it won the rpg maker contest a while back and is still a very solid game. theirs quite a few games out there worth checking out, just paroose the list and see which ones grab you. you can tell almost right away after loading it up if its going to be crap or a well made game.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!
Card Three is released! You can find it here!

Ok, I just uploaded the demo. Here's everyone's chance to get a look at what I've been working on.

Uh, I was going to put some hints in the game, but um, I forgot to do that. I kind of rushed the finishing touches and forgot all about it. Oh well, here's some tips to get you started.

You need Soul Gems to capture monsters. You get 5 at the start of the game. At the beginning of the forest where the monsters are, the first two you can capture are the Goblin and the Fairy. The Goblin is a decent fighter-type monster and have some buffing spells, but a low MP. The Fairy is more of a caster, and has a healing, sleep and speed boosting spell. The main character should be able to capture one of each at the beginning of the game. Once you get the souls for these two, take them back to the arena and go to the "Basic Monster Storage" room, and examine the computer consoles to get your monsters.

You need to capture more souls to teach the Goblin and Fairy their spells and to give them experience points. Each soul is worth 2 XP, so you need 5 souls to get them to level 2. There's also 2 more souls for the Goblin's spells and 3 for the Fairy's spells. Be careful when teaching abilities, since the script isn't set up to determine whether or not the monster has already learned a spell. Also, giving souls for XPs will break up the party. That's because RPGM 1 only gives experience to the whole party at once and not to individual characters.

If you need more, there's a gnome merchant near the entrance of the forest. He'll give you 2 soul gems for each captured soul you give him. You'll need to use the exchange early on to maintain a supply of Soul Gems to power up your monsters. As the game progresses, he'll be replaced by wandering Gnome Hunter encounters. Gnome Hunters have a 100% chance to drop Soul Gems, so fight them to restock.

The other monsters have a 10% chance to drop "food" items. Since monsters do not directly give experience in this game, these items are the only way to increase the main character's stats. You can use the items on your monsters, but this isn't recommended, since they can level.

The stores in this game are Trade stores. The only items you can use to barter are captured monster souls. The gnome merchant mentioned above is one such store. There is another in the area where you're given your gear where you can trade for some basic healing items. The store has the following items:

Potion, restores HP, 4 for 1 soul
Antidote, cures poison, ~3 for 1 soul
Magic Ale, restores MP, 2 for 1 soul
Life Drop, revives from death, 1 for 1 soul.

The arena: There's a arena where you can fight other hunters for prizes. If you win, you'll get some bonus monster souls. If you lose, you'll lose Soul Gems (be careful that you don't run out of Soul Gems!). You need at least 1 Soul Gem to fight an opponent.

You can rest up in Terrin's room to recover HP/MP.

Advenced monsters: The last two monsters in the demo are the Slime and the Skeleton. They're found deeper in the forest, and are a bit tougher. The Slime has 3 spells, and the Skeleton has 2. Like the other 2 monsters, their souls give them 2 XP each.
