    scattered thoughts

it's been awhile since i've played rpg maker, and lately i've gotten this compulsive urge to start creating again, so i've been getting back into touch with the game.

i prefer rpg maker 1, because i prefer the 2-d style, growing up on snes rpg's (which are my favorites, and i think are very underrated in some cases).

so i'm starting to remember how to work switches and take overs, and i'm starting to remember everything about the game.

but now i'm running into the same problems i would use to run into.

whenever i'd get the build-up of creativity, or inspiration to write a story for an rpg, i'd always end up quiting halfway through, due to complete unorganization of plot and a lack of direction. and then a couple weeks later when i would start fresh, i found myself recycling my old ideas from past games, and tried mashing them with new ideas, and just ended up getting more frustrated.

i get so many ideas that build up, like ideas for story, plot, characters, villians, mini-games, dungeons, quests, items, etc. all of it gets kind of overwhelming. i try writing it down, but it gets all scrambled, and i end up wasting a lot of paper that way.

i was sort of wondering, if anyone else has, or has had this problem. and if so, how they deal, and or, dealt with it. any suggestions?

RPG Maker 1 is a really cool little game. If my PS2 played the PS1 disks still, I would definitely be goofing around with that more, but oh well.

    Regarding your comments,

(Please keep in mind that I'm preaching to myself here. I deal with what you're talking about all the time.)

Well, you know that saying "Time heals all wounds" well, it seems to work with game creation. "Time heals all game creation slumps". Take your time. There's no need to rush. Work on your plot for a while. Then stop. Work on battles a bit. Then stop. Work on items a little bit. Then stop. Create some battle effects. Then stop.

If you come to a point where your story isn't making sense at all. Just stop. Don't work on your game for a while. Ideas will come to you in the interim.

So the next time you feel like deleting everything that you've made in the middle of a project because it isn't turning out how you'd like it to, then just stop. Don't delete it. Don't work on it at all for a few days even weeks or months if need be. Then come back to it later and make the decision instead of deleting everything on a whim only to come back much later and try to use the same exact ideas again.

I currently work with RPG Maker 1 and I have the same problems that you seem to be having.

The thing that I would tell you to do is to try to find something you can do to empty your mind of the ideas from a past game so you don't mash them with new ideas.

Take anywhere from a week to 2 months off to clear your mind. then get back to creating your games.

      I hope this helps.

Yeah, I prefer RPG Maker 1 to RPG Maker 2 because it has the power of 2 but it looks a lot better to the eyes. I'd make games for it, but I only have a laptop, and it has to serial port for a Dex Drive. Plus I'm on a mac anyway so it would never work.

It doesn't have the power of two. It just has more power than 3.

could someone give me a link to a good weapon site, or a site with a list of weapons.

i need some weapon ideas in my game, and i remember seeing a couple sites for it.
