I wish someone had given me that kind of helpful advice when I was in college... then maybe I wouldn't have ended up being a dirty cartoonist.

I hope you're not abusing those kids by making 'em drag those HUGE sketchpads around.

Hell yeah. It's not healthy to stay cooped up in the studio all the time.

So why did you flip the picture?

            Lookin' good, sugar bunny.

I kid. So very teacher-esque... I wish my art teacher had been fun instead of a total jerk with a stick up his rear. WHY WEREN'T YOU MY ART TEACHER???

to be honest my little dessert blossom
there is nothing i could teach you or
anyone else here at the pavilion that
you dont already know how to do.

having been a part of the academic "machine"
for the last 7 years now has made me
more sick to my stomach than happy.
dont get me wrong, i love what i do but
the art world is no different than a now
dead and buried concept of the music industry.

ever feel frustrated going to a contemporary
art museum? ever think, maybe i just dont get it?
screw that, theres nothing to "GET". the art
world is no different than american idol.

dont let the light shine on you for too long.

that would be the only thing i could teach you.

              over and out

              love and pain

I still think it would be awesome to have you as a teacher. You wouldn't make me draw boring crap like my high school art teacher did, would you?

Re: you're like school on sunday....no class

there is certainly an uneasy feeling about
doing what i do. make no mistake i love
teaching, and i will continue to do it for
the rest of my days...i guess my beef is
the fact that even as a fine arts professor
i am still just as much of a sell out as a
banker or a real estate agent or a walmart
exec...the college system is just as corrupt.
look at the student loan figures, college debt
is the new credit card. in the world of academia
my job is to get students enrolled in my class.
i can safely say in 7 years, i have never had
to meet with administration or art departments
regarding my curriculum. hows that for quality
control? regardless, i work as hard as i can
and always make changes to my courses each and
every semester. i do this because that is a part
of the vision i have of what a professor should do.
art changes, ideas change...so i feel it is important
                    to change my course constantly.

i also practice lectures on not just painting and
drawing, but also on my own personal research.
in fact, each year i have set aside a class day to
discuss all the things i am personally involved with.
as some had a chance to see, the italian horror film
painting show i was in last year was also an exploration
into italian cinema and culture. i spent all of 2007
reading a lot of film theory and film culture in italy.
a lot of that work i discussed in the form of a lecture
to my students. this year i will be talking about
the history of womens tennis, feminism, body function,
and the de-sexualization of female athletes. that
body of work will begin this spring...stay tuned.

anyways...there is a lot of disenchantment about
life. there is no system that isnt broken or corrupt.
this isnt news to anyone. all i know is i have been
given a huge responsibility to make sure my students
not only learn how to draw or paint, but keep their
eyes open. under no circumstances can i fail and
become just another part of the machine. there are
too many bad teachers...i will do everything i can
to be one of the good ones.

And that's why I love you.

I seriously considered teaching, but I don't think I have what it takes. I might be alright "teaching" art to elementary school kids. You know, before life crushes their hopes and dreams, stifiling their rampant creativity. :P

I admire your resolve. I had some great profs, and they helped spur my artistic development and growth. Fight the good fight, spaceman.

what we need now is a Serge inspired
                        freedom fighting beer drinkin promotional

That's dedication for you. Don't forget to throw fruit at the engineers.

Pardon my ignorance, professor, but what exactly is your artistic forte, specifically?

those texans actually gave me a
                            masters degree in painting!

                            specialized training is better suited
for the military. i believe soulzero
could chime in on that one.

if i made a list and sent it to santa
                            it would look like this

                            painting
                            drawing
                            design

That's quite fascinating. Your versatility reminds me of a quote from Robert A. Heinlein:
