PSO2 open beta is out now, if you understand moon runes. Some friends are playing it, say its pretty good so far.

So I got in. I played a dinky story mission before the game went down for maintenance.

Seems... okay so far. I just played the FIRST level, so. It was a boring forest level. It was one path with copypasta everywhere.

Game mechanics seem sound. I can switch between three sets of equipment on the fly -- rifle for long-range, sword for melee, fists, etc. Autorun, dodging, jumping, behind-the-shoulder view, lock-on...

I just made myself a male Cast and I didn't even modify it in anyway. But the default Cast is ****ing Weltall from Xenogears with a Gundam V-shape on its head so I was satisfied with that.

Gotta wait for tomorrow or so to see what the game's reeeaaallly like. Hope it's more like PSO. So far the only PSO-y thing about it is the music. The story's got too much anime voice acting bullhockey. Skipped it.

If anyone wants a shot at it I suggest schmoozing around /vg/ for an invite then I can help you with registration and set-up and all that.

Funny that this was bumped today, because I was using the Nico Nico app on the Vita last night, and stumbled across someone playing PSO2. Unfortunately, I was not sure how to save it as a favorite or whatever, navigated away from the window, and was not able to locate it again.

Why does everyone act like F2P is amazing. It usually ends up making the game rely on buying items via an item shop to be playable, or some kind of annoying mechanic like limiting your bag slots to an unmanageable size just so you are forced to buy more with real money.

I would prefer buying the game for $60 and enjoying it to the fullest.

I hope that is the case, and I hope that if there is a cash shop (which will be likely), that there is nothing game changing in it...but it is sega we are talking about....

I hate being negative, but I watched PSO BB and PSU crash because we got updates way later than the JP servers, despite our releases always coming out much later as well. They confirmed that the servers will be "global" and then the JP servers. I just hope SoJ gives SoA the content and tools they need to actually upkeep the game this time, and prevent it from closing much earlier than the JP version.

Even so... F2P! So I'll probably play the English version anyhow. Cause I'm too lazy to sit there and translate the whole "Matter Board" thing.

There's an English patch. There are English patches for everything (except Final Fantasy Type-0 and Valkyria Chronicles 3).

I would wait till after E3. If SEGA doesn't mention it then they TRULY ARE LOST.
