Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
so has anyone besides me picked up this game?
ive got a level 20/15renown character on the server Dark Crag.
imo the only thing this game has in common with warcraft is that the ui is similar, you make characters, and there are quests.
there isnt a single moment when playing this game feels like a grind because your constantly involved with doing other things that advance your character in different ways.
the capitol cities are pretty much about as amazing a thing as ive seen in an online game. i can definitely see why they had to postpone putting the other cities in the game. i have spent 3 hours atleast just exploring the inevitable city(destruction capitol).
the detail put into the environments is immense. its has an immersion that i havent felt in a game since ffxi.
the realm vs realm combat is nothing like the pvp in wow. there is no rogue popping and destroying you in one hit, endgame mages wreaking havoc on newbie starting areas with ice lance. if a high level character goes to a "tier" that is 2 steps below them, they get turned into a chicken with 1hp and no armor until they leave that area. you get xp and renown for each pc that you kill.
There are 40 character levels, which every level gets you new skills, tactics, or moral,(which ill get to in a minute). when you level up your not just getting Fireball Rank 5, all your skills level up and get more powerful every time you level up. so your not just looking forward to that next step-up in your spells damage or effect, your actually getting something that is useful to you.
You also learn tactics which are broken down into 3 categories. career, tome, and renown. career tactics are earned through leveling up and usually have some effect on your character or skill. tome tactics are earned through the Book of Knowledge, which is probably the best thing ever put into an MMO. these have to do with specific tasks that you unlock, like say you can approach 50% closer to beasts, or you do 10% more damage to a class of monster. there are many different types.
Renown Tactics are earned through leveling up your renown. There are 80 levels of renown. you level up renown from rvr and rvr objectives, like capturing keeps and and other world rvr objectives. there are lots of quests in the game that seamlessly tie in rvr with the PvE content. Renown tactics will give you bonuses such as +% to exp when killing PC characters, or +% to gold. you can also get renown tactics that decrease your opponents moral, which is coming up next. along with getting tactics from renown, you also get passive skills that increase your base stats and resistances. renown levels lead to the true endgame of WAR.
Morale abilities are abilities you get from leveling. they are over the top high damage, high effect skills that you must build up a "morale" meter to use. the meter is not to tough to build up during big rvr matches, but it doesnt build up to fast to the point that you are never getting the chance to use the ability. morale abilities can turn the tide of battle, such as dealing large amounts of damage to everyone in front of you, and healing everyone in your group for an equal amount. there are 4 tiers to morale and as you build up the meter the morales become more potent. you dont have 4 to start out with, and you actually get quite a few of them that you can swap out as the situation dictates. the morales are on a 1min global cooldown, which means that if you use your tier 1 morale , you still have to wait a min to use a tier 4 morale even if you build enough to get there. the morale meter quickly empties if you are not in combat.
so i guess thats all for now from me. if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. in my opinion, the depth of this games content blows WoW away.
i havent even gotten into how guilds work or Public Quests. I played WoW longer than probably anyone here except for maybe rena, so im not just some hater telling you this is better. i feel that this is the game that i can just have some fun in and bust heads without having to worry about spending my life getting the next best gear upgrades to compete with others. you can rvr at level 1 and you can join scenarios from anywhere in the world, so if your tired of questing, knock some heads.
alright this has gotten overly long.
