Re: Zelda Twilight Princess on Wii mirrored?

I really don't see why it would matter if it was mirrored. Aside from screenshots, no one has played the full game so it's not like people have a new obstacle to overcome, like mentioned before with the Mario Kart mirror tracks. It's not as if they just decided to take an MMORPG that's been out 5 years and completely flip all the areas. How do we know this is even the first game to be mirrored? Maybe there were other games that went deep into development and they decided they wanted to flip everything before they released screenshots of it. Who cares if you have to walk left right left now, instead of right left right? We haven't played Twilight Princess yet, so it's not really "mirrored" to us. We don't have to deal with our brain being confused at an area that we thought we knew but has changed.

Besides, if the exit is in a new area, it means they didn't just mirror it, they changed the map around some too. Hopefully it's for the better. But we'll never know unless they release two seperate versions (or if the GC version is "unmirrored.")
    Keep the change.

I don't think he was trying to complain or make an issue of it, just to say that it was odd or at least interesting.

Yeah pretty much. Just something I noticed.

And if this is the case, the Cube version wouldn't be flipped, since Link is still left handed in that version.

Besides, has anything I said even remotely showed some kind of sign of me wanting to provoke an arguement here?

Okay, you mean find different evidence. Find evidence for what? That they are both Wii screenshots, or that the GameCube version was flipped, too? I can't prove that the GameCube version was flipped. Nor am I trying to. I'm just saying that both those screens are from the Wii version, and that I assume that the GameCube version was changed as well. There is no proof that the GameCube version has or hasn't been changed. It just seems odd to me that the Wii version would be the only version flipped. The only difference in the mini-maps is the location of one of the exits. At least as far as I can tell. I figure those two shots are from two different demos, and somewhere along the way, they mirrored the room and moved the exit. And apparently mirrored that character as well and probably other stuff for some strange reason. (Although it wouldn't be the first time I've seen the screenshot of a cutscene flipped. Though it usually happens with movies.)
Why would there be a reason for them to flip the cube version? Link is still left handed in that version. So theres the proof right there. If you look at all the old screens, which are pretty much identicle to gamecubes, then with the new change of Link being right handed, for the new control setup, all the character models, included one area too for the most part looks flipped in the new screens. Once again, not that big of a deal, I can easily live with this.

I don't think it should be so hard to share a discussion about something I noticed here.

I think you sensed aggression in my post that isn't there. Some of the statements were blunt, but not trying to provoke an argument.

          (Edit)
Oh wait, you meant as a general thing, not just to me. Nevermind, sorry.

They moved the exit. That right there indicates a bit of a change in gameplay. Perhaps a different room to go through in order to get to the original room linked to. If they're both the same game, save for one using a different controller and having widescreen, then they'd both have the same puzzles, rooms, enemies, etc.. That's what I think, anyway. I could very easily be wrong, and the change really is Wii-exclusive. Perhaps because that extra room would only work with the Wii's capabilities. Maybe they changed several things in the Wii version in order to take advantage of it.

But simply mirroring the whole game because Link is right-handed doesn't make sense to me. I can sorta understand the reasoning behind making Link right-handed; whether it's 1:1 or not, it would still be akward for the 90% of the gamer population who are right-handed to swing a sword held by a left-handed person. But they could've just made Link right-handed and left the maps alone.

              And re-do all the animations?

Me either but Miyamoto says that's stinkin thinkin.

When asked why Link was left-handed in the Wii version of Twilight Princess, Miyamoto had this to say:
"Although Link is [traditionally] left-handed, at E3 we noticed people seemed to be using the right Wii controller to swing his sword. That's why we decided to make Link right-handed. The interesting this is, on the GameCube Link is still left-handed; because of the mirror mode the game map is reversed."

Re: Zelda Twilight Princess on Wii mirrored?

Okay, so the mirroring is exclusive to the Wii version, but I still wonder about the exit change. Though, "mirror mode"? And I figured they could've simply mirrored Link without mirroring the whole map. I mean, they've been doing the mirroring technique since Mario Kart 64 back in '96. Maybe earlier. One would think they'd have advanced enough to mirror only certain parts by now.

But I guess that settles that. Um... Now what?

The most shocking thing to me is that Link ain't a lefty anymore? This Zelda game has lost a few points in my eyes. I'm left handed and Link was one of my heroes.

He's still a lefty in the Gamecube version, though.

You're going to deduct points on something that is totally asthetic?

Theres nothing that special about being left handed, its not like you go over huge obstacles in life if your left handed.

If anything you just have a harder time using a can opener.

It may seem like something like this is small and uneeded, but this could have been a potentially game breaking mechanic. Imagine yourself holding the "wiimote" in your right hand, and trying to control a sword in the left hand of a person.

                            Its funked up.

Now, imagine the dungeons where specifically designed to cater to this left handed person you are trying to control with your right hand. Certain puzzles could be a disaster.

                            It makes since IMHO.

I agree. Mirroring just the animation at first seems like the simplest, most logical choice, but when you do that, you're actually changing the internal state of the game, and could potentially introduce some subtle bugs.

Mirroring everything keeps the states and interactions of the characters and environment intact; the only thing that changes is how the world is perceived by the player.

                              Pretty cool nonetheless.
