    Re: Best Endings

The original Silent Hill had some great endings...

    *****SPOILERS****************

No matter which one you get, you figure out that you've been used by Dahlia the entire time, and that the Cheryl you know is gone and she's never coming back. Even if you make it out alive, your future is highly uncertain... at least until you play SH3, which has the WORST endings ever, save for the UFO one.

    ************************

I also enjoyed the ending of Shadow of the Colossus, because it was beautiful and confusing.

      Re: Best Endings

I like endings with that merge the interacton aspect of the game into the emotion of the story line. Like pulling the trigger in MGS 3 or holding onto the steps in Shadow of the Colossus. When I played it I realized there was no way to not get pulled into the pool, but I kept holding on anyway until the last of my grip ran out.

As for bittersweet both Kolona and Conker's Bad Fur day both surpised me with their moving endings.

I've always loved the ending of Mario RPG for it's music and have replayed the last boss many times just to see it. Gosh I'm lame.

          Zangief's ending on SFII

          Dancing with Yeltsin was awesome.

            Re: Best Endings

Cripes, it's hard to describe the endings to that game without getting into spoilers, especially with the hidden "bad" ending.
That's a great damn ending. I never got the good ending, but I can't imagine liking it more. Probably my favorite "bad" videogame ending evar.
Soulblazer had a nice ending. The music at the very end is sad.

The ending of Xenogears was cool if just to see everybody full hand-drawn. Even with their stupid voices. Also, pretty musicks.

I'd like to mention Kingdom Hearts. Not because I liked the ending of the story, but because of the enchanting credits and music. If Nomura can do anything that I like, it's a good staff roll. Advent Children attests to this.

                Re: Best Endings

For me it would be a couple games.

                Grandia
                Snatcher
                Sewer Shark
                Metal Gear Solid 2 / 3
                Fatal Frame 1

                SPoileRs!

Grandia - Got to love seeing all the children of Justin's and Feena's coming out of the ship. Seeing that they got together and made love a lot

Snatcher - The many twists and turns, and knowing the battle wasn't over but at least you saved the people you loved, but lost a son you never knew you had until the end.

Sewer Shark - Getting on that beach and finally getting a chance to get the girl and beat up that fat bastard!

Metal Gear - For 2, it would have to be with the what's her name going in front of the Metal Gear and holding her arms up, and the bullets flying away from her. It was really magical. For 3, it would be seeing the flowers turn color representing the death of a fallen hero.

Fatal Frame 1 - I think the first ending is best, since the brother was the resecurted lover of the shrine maiden, and seeing him stay behind to keep her company for all of time was touching.

I saw its ending. I was wondering what the heck was going on. It seemed very much out of place in a game like it; something like a love scene with the subject of purpose or something. I was expecting something more along the lines of something more serious than thought-provoking. Though I only saw the first level and final boss.

You're not the only one. In fact, I do that with any game I enjoy the ending of.

Lessee here... Possible spoilers, I guess.

Final Fantasy IV - The final battle sequence included. Seeing that a couple NPCs defeated the final boss for you (yeah, right), his rise to seemingly ultimate power and everyone's struggle, hope, and strength... Final Fantasy playing in the background as the final battle starts and takes place in time and space itself. The music during the ending was nice, and it was interesting seeing what everyone was doing after the final battle (as overused as the ending is).

Final Fantasy VI - The music is a big reason. I wound up spoiling myself by listening to the (inferior-sounding) ending theme at Vgmusic. A lot. And then I finally beat FF6, and I was wowed. The sequence of events was nice, but the music is what floored me the most, and it helped me decide to get the original CD soundtrack. And I've listened to the ending on the CD multiple times, too.

Final Fantasy VIII - I beat it more than once, but that was because I had a problem where it froze during the FMV of Squall in the desert, and I tried a few times before getting a different disk and seeing the ending all the way through. It was a nice ending, and I especially liked the home movie during the credits. I think that's the only time you see a CG version of Cid. And the music was nice, too, of course.

Final Fantasy IX - Melodies of Life. Forget Necron coming out of nowhere and Kuja suddenly turning good, Melody of Life is the reason I like the ending. I also beat this before beating FF7 and 8, so it was the first time I heard lyrics in an FF game. And after Melodies of Life came the Final Fantasy theme, starting off soft and then escelating as the FMV-recap during the credits finished off. The recap being a whole lot better than using a simple black background during the credits.

Super Mario RPG - As said, the music. It was also the first RPG that I beat, and of course the first one I played. And being my first RPG, it was incredibly difficult my first time through (a lot of the bosses took more tries than I would've liked, especially the Weapon bosses; I think Bowyer for example took 7 tries or so). So when I was finally be able to beat Smithy after who-knows-how-many attempts, I had every reason to celebrate as I watched the ending sequence. I think this was the game that started my interest in video game music (especially end themes). Beforehand I never payed much attention to music. Didn't even notice that there was a boss theme until I fought Mack.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time - My first Zelda game. The entire ending sequence, including the bosses, was awesome. Especially the epic-ness that was Ganon. And then came the nice music again.

Zelda: Majora's Mask - I think I liked the story of this Zelda more, though the final battle wasn't nearly as epic. Still, the ending was more interesting, since it wasn't just random shots of scenery.

Kirby's Adventure - Okay, it's not a story-filled game like the rest, but it also had a great final battle sequence. The almost paralax scrolling was nifty for an NES game, as well. And, once again, the music.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

That part with Fortune wasn't really part of the ending, though.

Well it was near the end though. Granted it wasn't the ending, but it was what I was most touched by.

Most of the scenes, if not all of them, with Fortune were very dramatic. She was one of the few villians I actually felt sad for. A tortured soul forced to continue her painful existence with no way to end it.

The year was, like, 2005 or something in the game, right? She had to have had a MySpace.

Everything Mora and Kefka offered including Chrono Cross (the credits with live-action Kid), Super Mario World (the enemy credits!) and Super Metroid (the whole escape aaaaaaand the credits). Amazing music and memorable... uh, credits.

Zelda Ocarina of Time - After how long the game was, the ending was well worth it.

Zelda Wind Waker - The final boss fight with Ganondorf in this title was such a great boss battle, with the waterfalls and everything, it really showed off how beautiful that game was.

Final Fantasy IX - Everything Draygone said pretty much.

Xenogears - Still loved it, even though the voices were revolting. *Thinks of Bart* ugh.

Dragon Quest VIII - Never ended when you thought it would, but it played that enchanting music, and gave closure to the characters.

Prince of Persia The Two Thrones - I really liked this ending just because it kind of ended just like the first one.

Kingdom Hearts 2 - I know this game has a bad rep here, but I still like the ending of this game.

Shadow of the Collossus - Deer

I know I am forgetting some though.
